Police plan to do search Saturday for missing woman Debra “Dianne” Sellars left her Beaumont Avenue home more than a week ago and hasn’t been heard from since. Sellars told her 25-year-old son Deandre Terrell that she was going out and would return before he needed the van in the morning to go to work. She hasn’t called. In fact, Burlington Police investigators say she hasn’t used her cell phone at all. She’s known to be a reliable employee, but she didn’t show up for work Monday morning at Graham Dyeing and Finishing on Hawkins Street in Burlington. She’s never disappeared before, and she is almost always home when 16-year-old daughter gets home from school. “That’s not like her,” said her sister Sheila Daye. “It’s unusual for her to not worry about her kids or be there with her kids.” Sellars’ family reported her missing Tuesday, but she was last seen at 4 p.m. April 20. Police investigated Sellars’ van that same night when someone called in to report a suspicious vehicle in a gravel parking lot on East Market Street near Graham Street, said Burlington Police Capt. Steve Smith. There was no one in the van at the time. The doors were locked, and the license plate was attached. The next day, police were called to Hawkins Street because a van was blocking a private driveway on Hawkins Street near Ireland Street just a few blocks away. In both cases, it was Sellars’ van. When police found it the second time, it didn’t have a license plate on it. The officer had it towed, and it was searched. Three days later,Sellars was reported missing to police. Her children kept thinking she would come home, Daye said. “Even now, her son doesn’t want to leave the house because he thinks she’ll come home,” Daye said. Police plan to meet at 7:30 this morning at Glen Hope Baptist Church on North Avenue, which isn’t far from where the van was first located, to search the entire area, especially near the railroad tracks. Investigators are still handling it like it’s a missing person’s case, but family members think something has happened to Sellars because they don’t think she would disappear on her own. “I can’t see her staying away from her kids or leaving her van,” said Mona Ruffin, Sellars’ aunt. “I just don’t see her doing that.” Daye feels the same way. “I feel like she would have called,” Daye said. “Something is wrong. It’s been a week.” Sellars recently started her own business making floral arrangements. She just got a tax identification number. “I don’t see her starting that and bailing out,” Daye said. Daye hopes that if anybody knows anything about where her sister might be or what happened to her, that it will be reported to police. “I just want everybody to keep their eyes and ears open to everything,” Daye said. “They need to pick up the phone and call. The littlest thing is the most important thing.” Sellars is 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build. She may be wearing a white, ankle-length sundress with dark flip-flops. She was driving a burgundy 2000 Ford Windstar van with N.C. registration AME-6985. Anyone with information can contact Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100. m.thetimesnews.com/articles/-54844--.html

Police continue search for missing woman It’s been two weeks since 43-year-old Debra “Dianne” Sellars left her Beaumont Avenue home and disappeared. She was reported missing to Burlington police on April 24, and authorities have been searching for her ever since. “We have been getting information from the public that’s been very helpful,” said Burlington Police Capt. Steve Smith. However, Sellars remains missing. Her 2000 Ford Windstar van was found April 21 on Hawkins Street blocking a driveway, but it was seen by police in a gravel parking lot on East Market Street near Graham Street the evening of April 20. Sellars’ son last saw her at about 4:30 p.m. that day. She said she was going out but planned to get the van back to him before he had to go work the next morning. She hasn’t reported to work at Graham Dyeing and Finishing. She hasn’t called home, and police have determined that she hasn’t used her cell phone at all since April 20. Police have interviewed several people and have conducted searches since Sellars was reported missing. On April 28, police and emergency service personnel from all over Alamance County searched woods and canvassed neighborhoods in the area where her van was last seen. This past week, additional areas were searched and leads were followed up, Smith said. Police have received information from the public, including anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. Smith urges people to continue to call and provide information. Any tip providers who previously called with information and have additional details to add are encouraged to call again, Smith said. “We hope the community will continue to assist us in this case,” Smith said. Sellars is 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build. She may be wearing a white, ankle-length sundress with dark flip-flops. She was driving a burgundy 2000 Ford Windstar van with N.C. registration AME-6985. Police seeking information on missing Burlington woman Burlington police are still looking for a 43-year-old woman who disappeared almost seven weeks ago. No one has seen or heard from Debra “Dianne” Sellars since about 4:30 p.m. on April 20, but investigators are continuing to follow up on leads, said Burlington police Capt. Steve Smith. “We’ve been following up on CrimeStoppers information that we’ve received,” Smith said. Authorities want to be sure that the public doesn’t think Sellars has been found. On May 29, investigators with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office found the body of 39-year-old Jana “Michelle” Morton in some woods behind Morningside Drive. Morton had been missing for more than three years. After Morton was found, Sellars’ family received calls from friends who thought Sellars was the missing woman found, Smith said. “The family is concerned that people aren’t realizing in the community that it wasn’t her and want to make sure everyone knows we are still searching for Dianne Sellars,” Smith said. Sellars’ 2000 Ford Windstar van was found April 21 on Hawkins Street blocking a driveway. The night before, police saw the van in a gravel parking lot on East Market Street. Sellars hasn’t used her cell phone since April 20. On April 28, police and emergency service personnel from all over Alamance County searched woods and canvassed neighborhoods in the area where the van was found. “We feel like people in the community know something about this case and are hesitant maybe to call us,” Smith said. It isn’t like Sellars to disappear and not call her family. “It’s uncharacteristic of her past,” Smith said. “… It’s only natural to think that something bad may have happened to her.” Sellars is black, 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build. She may be wearing a white, ankle-length sundress with dark flip-flops. She was driving a burgundy 2000 Ford Windstar van with N.C. registration AME-6985. Anyone with information about Sellars’ whereabouts is asked to contact Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100. m.thetimesnews.com/articles/woman-56065-police-burlington.html

Body identified as missing Burlington womanPublished: Friday, October 12, 2012 at 14:51 PM.
The skeletal remains found by a hunter last week in woods off of Union Ri dge Road are those of a Burlington woman missing since April. A DNA profile created from samples provided by the family of 43-year-old Debra “Dianne” Sellars is what authorities used to identify her remains. Burlington police have been looking for Sellars since she was reported missing by her family on April 24. Sellars was last seen at her Beaumont Ave nue home on April 20. “Our investigation leads us to believe this is a homicide,” said Burlington police Capt. St eve Smith. Someone hunting in the woods off the 4200 block of Union Ri dge Road found the remains at about 6 p.m. Oct. 3 and called the Ala mance County S he ri ff’s Office because the remains were found in the county. The sheriff’s office immediately called the Burlington Police Department, knowing the agency was still searching for Sellars. The two agencies are continuing to work together on this case, Smith said. “We are going to work with them,” Smith said. “We’ve done a lot of work on this case and will continue to do that work until we resolve who may have killed Debra Sellars.” When the skeletal remains were recovered, they were sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill . A medical examiner was able to identify that the remains were those of a black woman, but dental records or DNA was necessary to make an identification. Authorities were unable to find Sellars’ dental records or anything in her home that they knew with 100 percent certainty contained her DNA. That’s why LabCorp built the DNA profile using samples provided by Sellars’ family. The remains are now at N.C. St ate University so they can be examined by an anthropologist who might be able to provide information about the cause of death. On that afternoon Sellars disappeared, she told her son that she was going out and would be back before he needed the 2000 Ford Wi ndstar van they shared. Sellars nev er returned home. Po lice have found her van and collected evidence from it. Last month, a crew from a cable TV program “Find Our Missing” interviewed detectives working the missing person’s case as well as Sellars’ family members for a documentary-drama that will air on TV One in the first quarter of 2013. At the time, the Times-News was told that the show would air even if Sellars was found. Po lice are still seeking assistance from the public. CrimeStoppers pays up to $2,500 and the governor’s office is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of one or more people responsible for Sellars’ death. Anyone with information about Sellars’ death can contact Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100. www.thetimesnews.com/news/top-news/body-identified-as-missing-burlington-woman-1.28511?page=2

Man arrested in 2012 Debra Sellars murder Published: Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 12:21 PM. Exactly a year after finding her skeletal remains in rural northern Alamance County, Burlington police arrested a man Thursday in connection to the murder of 43-year-old Debra Dianne Sellars. Rodney Lee Enoch, 42, of Burlington, was charged with first-degree murder. He was arrested at the Alamance County jail, where he was awaiting trial on unrelated domestic violence charges. He is being held there without bond.
According to police, an investigation showed that Sellars and Enoch were involved in a dating relationship at the time of her death. Sellars was initially reported missing by her family April 24, 2012. At that time, they hadn’t seen her for several days and was last known to be operating a 2000 gold Ford Windstar. Sellars had told her son on April 20, 2012, she would be home in time for him to use the van that they shared, but never returned. Burlington Police Lt. Brian Long said the agency determined Enoch was a suspect in the murder after conducting a series of interviews and meeting with the District Attorney’s office. Additionally, a few months ago, the office of the state medical examiner ruled that the death was a homicide, he said. “After everything was said and done and interviews compiled and reviewed with the district attorney, we feel there’s probable cause to believe he’s responsible,” Long said. Police had seen Sellars’ van April 20, 2012, in a gravel parking lot on East Market Street, and on April 21 blocking a private driveway on Hawkins Street.
In addition, police told the Times-News in October 2012 that while canvassing a neighborhood, someone reported seeing Enoch getting into a van that matched the description of Sellars’ vehicle. The murder arrest isn’t the first time Enoch has been charged with violence against Sellars. On Feb. 6, 2012, Enoch pleaded guilty in Alamance County District Court to assault on a female. The charges were from an incident that occurred in Sellars’ home on Dec. 16, 2011, in which Enoch was accused of striking Sellars in the face with his fist three times and striking her with a frozen pack of meat. He was arrested for the incident on Dec. 20, 2011. At the time, he also was charged with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly taking Sellars’ Cricket cell phone, but that charge was dropped when he pleaded guilty to the assault in February. On Sept. 12, 2012, Enoch received a suspended sentence of 150 days and was placed on 24 months supervised probation. www.thetimesnews.com/news/top-news/man-arrested-in-2012-debra-sellars-murder-1.212472?page=1
