Carrollton woman missing, vehicle found abandoned in Crystal Springs Apr. 30, 2012 Bloodhounds are now on the scene of a search and rescue mission in Copiah County, as rescuers comb the area around the south Crystal Springs exit on I-55 for a missing Carrollton woman. Linda Reed, 65, a bookkeeper for Moore’s Fabrications in Gallman, was seen leaving Walmart last night around 7:30 p.m., friends said. Around 8:30 p.m., some coworkers who were leaving the grounds of Moore’s fabrications spoke to her, and she told them to leave the gate unlocked, because she had to go back to Walmart. This morning her car was found abandoned on an obscure backroad just off I-55. Her purse and keys and cellphone were still in the car, among other personal effects, said searchers. A sheriff’s department official contacted said he couldn’t release any details yet, and that he couldn’t speculate whether it was foul play or not at this point. “She’s very upbeat, very loving, she takes care of everyone. She’s someone you can depend on for anything,” S. Moore, the wife of Moore’s Fabrications owner Shannon Moore, said “We don’t know of anyone that would want to hurt her.” Search and rescue units have been on the ground searching for Reed, since around 1 p.m. today, said Copiah County EMA Director Randle Drane. Drane said the Metro One helicopter should be arriving shortly to help with the search from the air. Rescuers said at first it was believed that Reed had been involved in an accident, as one occurred on I-55 close to the same time last night that she went missing. Reed, who is from Carrollton, lives in a trailer behind Moore’s Fabrications during the week. S. Moore said she’s always the first to get to the office, but when coworkers got there this morning, the gate was locked, and Reed was nowhere to be found. www.clarionledger.com/article/20120430/NEWS/120430026/Carrollton-woman-missing-vehicle-found-abandoned-Crystal-Springs?odyssey=mod|mostview

Search on for missing Carrollton woman Linda Reed's vehicle recovered May 01, 2012 Criminal Investigation Into Missing Copiah County Woman CRYSTAL SPRINGS, Miss. - The Copiah County sheriff said he fears someone abducted a missing Carrollton woman. A GMC Envoy belonging to Linda Reed, 65, was found Monday in a wooded area on Interstate 55 near the south Crystal Springs exit, Sheriff Harold Jones said. The vehicle didn't appear to be damaged, and Reed's purse, cellphone and keys were found inside it, Jones said. Reed was last seen leaving the Walmart in Hazlehurst at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Jones said. "(Reed was seen) on surveillance video at Walmart. We saw that she was OK. She got in her car at Walmart and left. I think she got some groceries and a few other items, and from that time on, she's unaccounted for," Jones said. Officials said the case is being treated as a criminal investigation. Emergency crews were used dogs and all-terrain vehicles to search the area on Monday for Reed. The search for Reed was suspended late Monday. "We're going to start doing a crime scene investigation. Basically, we're going (to send) crime scene (technicians) to her house over close to the sheriff's office. We're going to take her vehicle to the sheriff's office for processing," Jones said. Metro One helicopter and Pike County bloodhounds joined the search. Local fire departments, friends and Reed's co-workers from Moore Fabrications fanned out across the area, as well. "It's hectic, as you can imagine. Cindy, her daughter, is just trying her best to get a grip on things. She's just trying to figure out what's happened," said Reed's friend Chris Green. The sheriff said he was hoping the search would reveal Reed had simply wandered off. www.wapt.com/news/central-mississippi/Search-on-for-missing-Carrollton-woman/-/9156946/12242916/-/t3aahpz/-/index.html

Copiah sheriff requests FBI help in missing woman case Family members of Linda Gale Reed hope a $7,000 reward will lead to information in her disappearance. "Just call the police, 911, just get a hold of somebody. Just please," pleads husband James "Lou" Reed. "She's a strong woman and real religious woman, and we're all praying for her safe return and I know she'll be ok," says son Chris Sessums. On Thursday afternoon Lou Reed and his sons returned to the scene where Linda Reed's SUV was found Monday, just off I-55 in Gallman, hoping to a piece of information. The family says basically, they're back at square one and time is precious. "Just because we don't have anything yet, doesn't mean it has to be bad. We've still got hope," says step-son Chris Reed. Family members say Lou Reed was the last person to talk with Linda Reed on Sunday evening, about 9 O' clock. The 65 year-old woman lives in Carrollton, Mississippi but during the week she works and stays in a mobile home in Gallman, now draped with crime scene tape. "It's been tough, been tough. I just never imagined going through anything like this," says Lou Reed. Reed's family says she doesn't have any mental health issues and there's nothing to suggest suicide. The Copiah County Sheriff's Department has contacted the FBI for additional resources. Nearly a hundred people on horseback and ATV's helped Monday. The number of volunteers dropped to about 30 on Thursday. "I'd ask anybody that can come help, I'd appreciate it. I've still got a lot to cover, and I want to thank the sheriff's department of Copiah County and all the other agencies that have helped," says Sessums. If you have any information on Reed's whereabouts you're asked to call the Copiah County Sheriff's Department. m.wlbt.com/autojuice?targetUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.wlbt.com%2fstory%2f18093006%2fsearch-for-linda-gale-reed-continues

Woman's family offers reward Search continues for missing Gallman bookkeeper May. 4, 2012 The family of 65-year-old Linda Reed now has a $10,000 reward for anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the Gallman bookkeeper. The Copiah County Sheriff's Department has stopped the land search and moved to background and electronic searches. Authorities have said they believe Reed may have been abducted. The FBI has offered to assist the department, said Chief Investigator Milton Twiner with the sheriff's office. "We'll continue the search for her," Twiner said. "The family has some other stuff going on." Reed's son, Chris Sessums, said Friday afternoon the family had new updates or leads. "We covered more roads in the county, taking road by road in groups of two and three," Sessums said. "We're searching on foot and four-wheelers. "Right now, just search and pray," he said. Reed worked many years in Gallman and returns on weekends to Carroll County, where she lives with her husband in Carrollton. She lives in a mobile home behind the Gallman business where she works during the week. Her adult children and grandchildren live near Gallman. Her elderly mother whom family said she checks on often lives in Philadelphia. Linda Reed was last seen Sunday night. James Reed talked to his wife around 9 p.m. Sunday and assumed from their conversation that she was home for the night. She told him she had been to Walmart in Hazlehurst, and investigators found a receipt from the store in her kitchen. She was seen on surveillance video leaving Walmart earlier that evening. Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said after the search on Monday with a helicopter, trained dogs, and 150 volunteers, he is certain that Linda Reed is no longer in the wooded area where her gray Chevrolet Equinox was found Monday after she did not report to work as usual in Gallman. A reward fund has been set up at Regions Bank. Earlier this week,a farmer told authorities he saw a white truck backed up to her mobile home early Monday morning, according to Karen Reed, the missing woman's daughter-in-law. The man was getting ready to bale hay when he saw the truck. www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012205050341

Copiah County woman missing The search for a missing Copiah county woman is now a criminal investigation. Monday more than one hundred firefighters and volunteers combed the woods where Linda Gale Reed's vehicle was found off Interstate 55 near Crystal Springs. Pike county blood hounds and Copiah county search crews looked through thick woods where the 65 year old's SUV was stopped. The gray Chevy Equinox was found on what appeared to be an overgrown logging road off Pat Harrison Drive south of Crystal Springs. Copiah county investigators said Reed's purse, money, glasses and cell phone were inside the vehicle. "As soon as we got the word I got off work and came straight here," said family friend Chris Green. Green and his wife, who did not want to comment, joined Reed's family at the site where law enforcement recovered the missing bookkeeper's vehicle. "She's a sweet nice person, and I can't imagine what happened to her. Family is real upset and trying to figure out what's going on," added Green. By evening Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said the search turned into a crime scene investigation. He believes Reed may have been abducted and is no longer in the area. "We know that she was in Hazlehurst last night. We do have surveillance video of her leaving Walmart, nobody with her getting in her car and leaving. The next time we see her or her car is here at the interstate intersection, south of the Crystal Springs interstate," said Jones. A family spokesperson, Jeff Cook, told WLBT Monday evening that Reed was of sound mind and was her usual self when she spoke recently with her children. They were not aware of anyone who wanted to harm her. Reed is the mother of a son and daughter. She has worked at Moore Fabrication and Machine in Gallman since 1999. "She is always prompt and is a faithful worker. It is out of character for her not to show up for work," said Moore Fabrication and Machine owner Shannon Moore. Sheriff Jones said investigators were examining the vehicle Monday evening and will process her Gallman home in the next step in this criminal investigation. Authorities said Reed was a Carrollton Mississippi resident and also has a mobile home near her job in Gallman. Linda Gale Reed is 5'4", weights about 159 pounds and has brown hair and gray eyes. If you know anything about Reed's disappearance please contact the Copiah County Sheriff's Department at 601-894-3011. m.wlbt.com/autojuice?targetUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.wlbt.com%2fstory%2f17942601%2fcopiah-county-woman-missing

Family increases reward money for missing Mississippi woman Linda Reed last seen April 29 COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. - The family of a missing Copiah County Woman is offering more reward money for information about here whereabouts. Texas Equusearch, a mounted search and recovery team out of Texas, added $10,000 to the reward fund, bringing the total to $20,000. A Texas group led a search Saturday for Linda Reed, 65,who was last seen leaving the Walmart in Hazlehurst at 7:45 p.m. April 29. Her GMC Envoy was found the next day in a wooded area on Interstate 55 near the south Crystal Springs exit. Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said Reed's purse, cellphone and keys were found inside the vehicle. "I just want to find Linda,' her husband, James Reed, said. James Reed said the past two years have been hard for him and his family. He said she would never have left on her own. "She wouldn't have left her friends, family and me," he said. "I suspect that she's been abducted." Reed said he is not giving up hope of finding his wife. Texas Equusearch organized a search party that includes volunteers and Dave Holloway, Natalee Holloway's father. Natalee Holloway disappeared from the Caribbean island of Aruba while on a high school graduation trip in 2005. She was last seen May 20, 2005 leaving a bar with Joran van der Sloot. Her body was never found. Texas Equusearch put out a call earlier this week for local volunteers to meet Friday morning at the Copiah County Fairgrounds to search for Reed. "I'll take anybody that can come walk, ride 4-wheelers, horses, whatever we can get," said Reed's son, Chris Sessums. Volunteers spent Friday combing through the woods, near ponds and neighborhoods. They wouldn't say exactly where they were searching for fear that if someone harmed Reed, they would come back to move any evidence that might have been left behind. "There's strength in numbers and there's a lot of area here that needs to be covered, and we need more people to do it," said David Rader of Texas Equusearch. The search operation will continue on Saturday. The group said it will reassess the search efforts on Sunday and then on Monday take those plans to local authorities to see if they're still needed in the Copiah County community. Holloway said this is the third search he has participated in with Texas Equusearch. He said he has worked closely with the group since Texas Equusearch helped look for Natalee Holloway in Aruba. www.wapt.com/news/central-mississippi/Family-increases-reward-money-for-missing-Mississippi-woman/-/9156946/13083492/-/item/1/-/qtgbe3z/-/index.html

Missing woman, missing money? A 65-year-old grandmother who has been the subject of a massive search since she disappeared April 29 may have been taking money from the Copiah County business where she worked, the owner said Tuesday. The search for Linda Reed may take a turn today when Shannon Moore of Moore's Fabrication's meets with state and federal law enforcement authorities. Currently authorities are looking over the books of Moore's Fabrications for the last several years. Reed has worked as a bookkeeper for Moore since 1999, Moore said. She had a long-standing relationship with his family. Before she worked for him, she had worked for his father. And the company had paid for her to go to schools, as well. "I never thought we'd ever need to look for CPA work outside of her," Moore said. Reed was discovered missing the morning of April 30 when family members found her car on a small logging road not far from the south Crystal Springs exit on I-55. Before her disappearance, she had almost total control over his business finances, including check-writing authority. "I trusted her completely there," he said. Moore said he's worried about his future now, as he's not sure what comes next as the discrepancies are sorted out. "My biggest concern is my daughters and their future," he said. "This is a horrible thing, not knowing what's going to happen. We're dealing with the federal government, and we don't know if we're going to end up owing back taxes. It's definitely a trial." Reed worked in Gallman during the week and returned on weekends to Carroll County, where she lived with her husband in Carrollton. Moore said a mobile home behind the business was put there specifically for her to live in during the week. Reed's son, Chris Sessums, said he believes in his heart that his mother is still alive, but he said he doesn't know why she would need to take any money. "If it came down to her needing money, all she needed to do was ask," he said. "It's not like she's in a financial bind or anything." Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said the matter is still under investigation. "We're looking into every angle," he said. "We will be releasing more information very soon." The case is featured on America's Most Wanted's website. Reed is listed as a missing person. Officials from the FBI were not available for comment Tuesday. Texas search company Texas Equusearch was in town for a week, said Sessums, combing the county for any sign of Reed. "They didn't come up with anything, and they believe she's still close, based on their past cases," he said Tuesday. "For the resources they have and the research we had to go on, we found nothing. If we'd have had a direction to search in, it would have helped." Moore said he and his employees are stunned at the idea that Reed could have left town after taking money, potentially over the entire time she worked for him. "We've got 20 faithful people who work here who have put their trust in this company," he said. Sessums asked the public just keep the search for his mother in their thoughts. "If she did leave, she didn't go alone," he said. "Please keep praying for her." Reed's husband, James Reed, talked to his wife around 9 p.m. on April 29, and assumed from their conversation that she was home for the night. She told him she had been to Walmart in Hazlehurst, and investigators found a receipt from the store in her kitchen. She was seen on surveillance video leaving Walmart earlier that evening. Jones said after the search on the Monday following Linda Reed's disappearance, he was certain she is no longer in the wooded area where her gray Chevrolet Equinox was found. Reed's family has put up a $10,000 reward for information leading to her return. Officials ask that anyone with any leads on Reed's whereabouts call Crimestoppers at (601) 355-TIPS (8477), the Copiah County Sheriff's Office at (601) 894-3011, or Equusearch at (877) 270-9500. www.clarionledger.com/article/20120516/NEWS/205160349/Missing-woman-missing-money

Her status changed from missing to wanted for embezzlement in the summer. She was arrested in Longview, Texas, in October, working as a bookkeeper in her own name and official identification. Authorities say Reed allegedly embezzled $20,000 from her Mississippi employer, Moore's Fabrications. She had worked for the company since 1999. They say an accountant found the money missing from petty cash fund.www.wjtv.com/story/22595667/linda-reed-pleads-not-guilty-to-embezzlement
