Police: Girlfriend of man found shot to death in Gardenia Street home is missing Police say the girlfriend of a man who was found shot to death Tuesday at a Gardenia Street residence is missing. Tommy Loren Webb, 35, was found about 2 p.m. inside a mobile home at 1722 Gardenia Ave., Fayetteville police said Wednesday morning. Webb had been shot multiple times and is believed to have been killed late Monday or early Tuesday, said Lt. Chris Davis, police spokesman. Webb's girlfriend, Denika Leshalle Jones, 26, who lived there, has not been located, Davis said. In another case twist, Fayetteville firefighters were called to the Gardenia Avenue home after someone deliberately set fire to a couch in the residence Wednesday morning , Davis said. The fire was reported at 4:15 a.m., Davis said, and the State Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene. Webb was cleared of wrongdoing in the June 3, 2011, shooting death of 24-year-old Johnathan Vincent Grimes. A police investigation determined that Webb acted in self-defense when he killed Grimes and wounded Eric Lamont Bradley, 28, after a shoot-out that happened on the 200 block of Old Shaw Road, authorities said. Grimes was found dead inside Webb's apartment and Bradley, who was shot twice, was outside when police arrived. Webb had been shot in the hand and groin, authorities said. Police have not said why the shooting was determined to be in self-defense but made the ruling based on witness statements and Webb's wound, authorities said. Webb had an extensive criminal history with convictions on charges involving drug trafficking, robbery and assault, according to state Department of Correction records. Jones was convicted in 2004 on a charge of misdemeanor larceny, DOC records show. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 155 pounds, police said. Anyone with information about Webb's death or Jones' whereabouts is asked to call Fayettevill police at 433-1421 or the Crimestoppers tip line at 433-TIPS (8477). a.fayobserver.com/#articles/2012/05/16/1178227

Body found in Fayetteville could be Denika Jones Thursday, May 24, 2012 FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- On the same day that the relatives of a Fayetteville missing woman made an emotional plea for information into her disappearance, police are investigating a body found off Gregory Street. Wednesday afternoon, a person was walking through a wooded area when they came across human remains. The area is just outside of the city limits. Cumberland County Deputies contacted the Fayetteville Police Department due to the body's proximity to the city limits. Positive identification still needs to be made, but detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department believe the human remains may be related to the missing person investigation of 26-year-old Denika Jones. Jones has been missing since May 15, when the body of her boyfriend was found inside the home they shared. On Wednesday, Jones' family held a press conference inside police headquarters to ask the public for help in finding the missing woman. "Just think of a situation as if it was your family member. You would want them back," Jones' aunt Tyshica Smith said. "You'd want to find out information about them. Don't be scared to come with evidence or any information that you may have to led her back to her family." Jones' boyfriend, 36-year-old Tommy Webb, was found shot to death inside the couple's trailer in the 1700 block of Gardenia Avenue. Police said Jones' cell phone and pocketbook were also found inside the home. Jones' father said he last spoke to his daughter Easter weekend. He said he was concerned about an incident last year were Webb shot two people, killing one. However, investigators said that shooting was in self-defense. "Me and my daughter, we did talk about that incident, and that was one of the reasons why I was afraid for her and wanted her to move out of the area," her father Frederick Smith said. "There's no way she would have left on her own accord. So, we don't believe that as a family," Tyshica Smith said. "We believe that if she left ... it was not of her own freewill." Relatives have searched a wooded area near the murder scene for Jones, but, so far, they have come up empty. Police have said they believe Jones may be in danger. She was described as standing 5'4" tall and weighing 155 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Anyone having information regarding Jones' whereabouts is urged to call the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1421 or 1856 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS. abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/local&id=8673696
