UC Davis Student Disappears After Release From Mental Health Hospital DAVIS (CBS) – A search is underway for missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax. Lomax was last seen Tuesday leaving an outpatient therapy center in the Sacramento area off Howe Avenue, and now flyers are being handed out in hopes of locating her. More than 100 people, family, friends and total strangers all showed up to search for 19-year-old Lomax, who has been missing for more than 48 hours. “I think people call it a nervous breakdown. I don’t know if that’s the technical term for it but she just got so stressed she broke down,” said father Craig Lomax. Craig said she’s a perfectionist, a straight-A student and hard worker, always focused on doing her best. But after struggling with a class and a few physical injuries, she started to change. “She had lost a lot of weight and she was very stressed, and she wasn’t being reasonable,” said Craig. Linnea’s family was so worried they pulled her out of school right before finals and put her into a mental health hospital for 10 days. Just a day after being released, she disappeared. She doesn’t have her medication and her family worries what could happen to her. Friend Lexi Thorup said she spoke to Linnea days ago. “She sounded really confused and scared. It didn’t sound like the Linnea I know, and I just think the pressure from school just kind of got to her,” said Thorup. So as a volunteer search team was scouring the area near Fair Oaks and the American River. Her father had a message for Linnea: “You know you’re loved. I know that part of you still knows, but the other part’s not working and we need you to call home,” said Craig. Linnea’s family is asking people to call 911 immediately if they see her. sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/06/29/uc-davis-teen-disappears-day-after-release-from-mental-health-hospital/

Was Linnea Lomax spotted at a homeless shelter? July 2nd, 2012 A new report claims that Linnea Lomax was spotted at a homeless shelter and soup kitchen known as "Loaves and Fishes" in Sacramento. However this sighting was several days ago when her disappearance was still fresh in the media headlines. With her case getting so much attention, it's likely that she's no longer at "Loaves and Fishes," but are there are other homeless shelters in the area? What about homeless camps? The report highlighting a candlelit vigil for the missing UC Davis student revealed the sighting at the homeless shelter, but where did this alleged sighting originate? Was it a random witness who called the police tip line? Was it someone who was at the facility as well? View slideshow: Linnea Lomax Regardless of what some may want to believe, homeless shelters and similar areas are high-risk for young women who lack the means to defend themselves. "Loaves and Fishes" in Sacramento, believe it or not, is the setting of an attempted rape by a convict who had just been released back into society. In 2010 Kevin Eugene Patterson tried to rape a female counselor. You see, this isn't just a facility for wayward youth and the tired and hungry. It's also a place where convicts are released to transition from the jail and prison system to the outside world. If Linnea Lomax was spotted in this area she probably got herself a warm meal and a cot to sleep on for the night, but where is she now? The problem with homeless shelters and camps is simple; it's somewhat off-the-grid. You can be living among unregistered sex offenders, absconders, wanted murderers, ex convicts and other generally unpleasant people. To be young, pretty and defenseless in areas like these is just a recipe for disaster. Again, this is not a popular outlook but Linnea Lomax very well could have been either abducted or led from the area by a seemingly good person. Who knows, she could be shacked up with friends who are not coming forward with the facts. That's a great possibility. Have volunteers or investigators considered searching the known homeless camps in the area? These camps are often evicted and arrests are usually made in these little encampments. The attached video(s) depict the conditions of these Sacramento homeless camps. It's a bleak existence, homelessness, and it's hard to imagine that Linnea Lomax is roughing this existence on her own willingly. As stated in this analysis, it's highly likely she was abducted or met some kind of foul play. Again that's not a popular topic for discussion but not every necessary concept is popular. www.examiner.com/article/was-linnea-lomax-spotted-at-a-homeless-shelter

Linnea Lomax Possibly Sighted June 30, 2012 02:45 AM EDT There are new details in the Linnea Lomax disappearance. The family of the missing UC Davis woman have released clarifications on the clothing she was wearing when she was last seen this week. There are also new comments regarding her emotional state -- which lends to a dark feeling over this entire case. Where is the 19-year-old college freshman and will she be found safely? The description of the clothing worn by the missing woman include a black hoodie with the word "Sweden" in red across the front of it. She was also wearing green pants and flip flops -- though the color of the flip flops was not released. The blond hair, blue-eyed UC Davis coed had just been released from a mental health clinic on her first day out after a 10-day stint after a mental breakdown. As stated in an earlier report, she's in a fragile mental state due to the stress of studying for finals. The latest update in the disappearance of Linnea Lomax comes with the possibility of a sighting. After midnight on Wednesday it was reported that she may have been sighted behind a Costco store. Though the details of this alleged sighting are shaky at best. Hopefully volunteer searches turn out positive and she is found safe and sound. Her family believes that she is frightened and doesn't want to be found. Why? Well, her father seems to know exactly what's in her head, which is a curious oddity: "She thinks that all that help that is coming to help her is something bad. She's thinking they're going to give her meds and give her therapy for something she doesn't think she has," said Craig Lomax. Could Craig know exactly what's in the head of his missing 19-year-old daughter or does he just have a good idea? It's not a popular opinion, but the idea that she vanished in an area frequented by patients of the mental health clinic and the urgent care facility just kind of puts her at a heightened risk of abduction. Users of drugs and disturbed individuals could find a woman in a vulnerable state easy to pick up and led away without incident. Nonetheless, the family appears to only be considering the possibility that she is out there somewhere, hiding, without a wallet, cellphone or any of her other belongings. A command center is located on the second floor of a fire station at Watt and El Camino, and volunteers are encouraged to check in and help keep awareness of this missing woman at the front of the headlines as well as the surrounding communities. Please do your part and help spread the word about this young woman's strange and mysterious disappearance. news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981439913

Linnea Lomax Is Not Mentally Disabled—Searches Should End July 07, 2012 06:45 AM EDT Nineteen-year-old Linnea Lomax has been "missing" for the better part of two weeks, but the searches for her should not be continuing. That's because both police agencies that have looked at the case have acknowledged that she is voluntarily missing and is not "mentally disabled." There is no evidence that she is in any danger. Nonetheless, the family is insistent that she must be found, but then what, to be dragged kicking-and-screaming back to a mental hospital where they pressured her to admit herself? This case is aggravating because the persistence of the religious group of volunteers recruited by Craig Lomax, the father of the missing woman, and it really is about time that it came to an end. Why would someone donate to a cause that has no fruitful point? Would you donate money and time to a cause that is essentially nonexistent? While Linnea may be "missing" as far as her family is concerned, she is really just avoiding her family. Does that really mean she is missing? If so, does it really count for the type of missing that is demanding such media attention that could be better suited for actually endangered missing people? After the Sacramento authorities dropped their end of this case, the El Dorado County Sheriff also appeared to have waved the disappearance of the UC Davis off. He explained, yesterday, that Linnea is missing on her own as an "adult voluntary walkout" and there is no evidence that a crime has occurred. Guess what else the sheriff said: Linnea Lomax is not mentally disabled! That's a far cry from the stories the family of the 19-year-old woman are still spreading around the region of El Dorado County as well as the internet. The so-called "official Facebook page" dedicated to finding her is still soliciting donations and "volunteers" to go out searching for her—a voluntarily missing adult college student. It's mind-numbing the logic (or lack thereof) displayed by those who are disregarding the fact that she is a woman who is pushing 20 years old. To hell with her personal rights and liberties, right? Forget that woman's privacy; her father wants her to come home right this instant! Oh wait, no, her father wants to forcefully commit her to a psychiatric hospital, again, even though she was given a clean bill of health. What the hell is going on with these people? That's the million dollar question—not "where is Linnea?" These searches should end, seriously. Why donate time and money to a cause that isn't real? Why waste time hunting down a grown woman like an animal in hopes of returning her to the very place she does not want to go back to in the slightest? Come on, people, please just use your heads. Suicide by ibuprofen? Among the dramatics being spread by the family of this voluntarily missing woman, it was reported that she had a suicide-related website open and an opened bottle of ibuprofen in her dorm when her father pressured her into committing herself to a mental health facility. It's being insinuated that the woman was attempting to kill herself. While originally the theories of abduction or suicide were easy-to-believe, this detail can't be ignored. An ibuprofen overdose is not fatal. So it's absolutely stupid to assume she was attempting suicide with this over-the-counter antiinflammatory medication. The lethality of this drug rests in your liver and kidneys—which are what filter the pharms. Renal and liver failure is treatable, and it's a longterm effect of taking too much ibuprofen. If someone were to be serious about suicide, this over-the-counter drug would probably be the last thought on their minds. Even self-drowning is more effective. So, again, this ibuprofen and suicide website story seems like sheer exaggeration on the ends of all who are using it as a reason to justify violating the wishes and privacy of this 19-year-old woman. news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981458779

Linnea Lomax's Parents Write Open Letter to Their Missing Daughter UC Davis student Linnea Lomax has been missing since June 26, for more than two weeks. July 13, 2012 The parents of missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax wrote an open letter to their daughter on Thursday. Lomax, 19, has been missing since June 26, when she disappeared after an outpatient visit at an outpatient facility on Howe Avenue in Sacramento. Lomax had a nervous breakdown during finals at UC Davis and was checked into a facility. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has handed the case over to El Dorado County (Lomax's family is from Placerville) since Lomax is 19, and now considered to be "voluntarily missing" by authorities. Here's the letter from Lomax's parents, which they hope will help establish contact with their daughter: Dear Linnea, We love you beyond what words can express. We have cherished you from your first breath and our affection has only increased with each day. We never imagined loving anyone as much as we love you and your brother and sister. No matter what happens, our love for you will not falter. We will never stop loving you passionately. Never. Our best memories are filled with you. 19 years of absolute enjoyment coming from your compassionate character, your skills and your joy-filled personality. Our thoughts are filled with thousands of beautiful images of you: bakery runs, private piano recitals, the “donut hotel,” singing “concerts” in the dishline at camp, hikes on mountains and through rivers, lazy summer days, Gram’s playhouse, the RV trip, the summer house, playing in the ocean surf, baking sessions, you yelling at your sister when she cheats at board games, “training” the dog… the happy memories are seemingly endless. You have given us so much to be thankful for: we look back and love it all. We love your past and look forward to your future. You are so special to us and we want to be by your side through the best and worst of times. We have so much hope for your future, and for our future together. The last 14 days have been the most difficult days of our lives. The pain of not knowing if you are okay is unbearable. If you are able, please, please let us know where you are. The greatest gift you could give us would be to communicate to us that you are safe. Also, we hope you understand that it would be our honor and delight to stand with you as you work toward having hope again. We are on your team forever. We will never stop thinking about you, and wanting to hear from you, not even for a moment. We believe that nothing can separate you from the love of God. We hope you know that nothing can change our love for you, either. We love you every second of every day and are praying for you. We long for the day that we know you are safe. - Mom and Dad. KlaasKids Foundation helping to locate 19-year-old Linnea Lomax UPDATED 5:11 PM PDT Aug 19, 2012 SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) - On Friday, a national missing persons group led a search effort in Sacramento to try and locate 19-year-old Linnea Lomax. After three days of combing through the weeds and thick brush on the banks of the American River in Sacramento, search leaders said they have found a yellow legal pad and folder containing notes written by Lomax. The items were in the woman's possession when she disappeared from on June 26 from the 800 block of Howe Avenue. "As of this point, this is the only place we can point to and say 'She was here,' since the time of her disappearance," said Lomax's father, Craig. Marc Klaas, of the KlaasKIDS Foundation, said that while there have been many possible sightings, the items found Sunday are the only verifiable evidence found so far. Her family said they must now face the tough reality that something terrible may have happened to her. Lomax's father said she had a nervous breakdown on June 26 and needs medication to function. August 19, 2012 Notebook discovered in search belongs to missing coed UPDATE: A notebook belonging to missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax was found just off the American River Bike Trail, her family announced at a press conference this afternoon. This was the first solid lead since her disappearance June 26, said Craig Lomax, the girl's father. The notebook was found near the Sutter Medical Center outpatient facility on Howe Avenue where the 19-year-old Placerville woman was last seen. She was receiving treatment after having a mental breakdown while studying for finals, her father said. The evidence has been turned over to police, but Lomax confirmed it belonged to his daughter. "I saw the handwriting on the notebook," he said. "It was Linnea's." The notebook was found during a search by 250 volunteers over the weekend. The KlaasKids Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to finding missing children, joined in the search. The Sausalito-based group was founded by Marc Klaas, whose daughter Polly was kidnapped and murdered in 1993. "You shouldn't have to reinvent the wheel every time," Klaas said. The foundation's Director of Search Operations Brad Dennis came from Florida to aid in the search. "We're doing a very thorough grid search," Dennis said. "After seven weeks, we finally got a ground zero," Klaas said of Sunday's breakthrough. Lomax said that as far as he knows, Linnea is alive. "I hope she's still alive, but I also have to believe every tip, theory and lead," he said. The search has taken a toll on the family. In addition to Linnea, the Lomax's also have a son and daughter who are still in high school. "We're maintaining the search, but we also have to maintain life," Lomax said. "We still have to be mom and dad." The number of rumors circulating, coupled with the time the case has dragged on, is challenging the viability of the search, Lomax said. "I'm not going to stop looking for her until I can confirm she's safe," he said at the press conference. The family plans to organize another search Sept. 8. Anyone who wants to help or has information about the whereabouts of Linnea Lomax is asked to visit helpfindlinnea.org. Linnea is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs about 100 pounds and has curly, long blond hair. She was last seen wearing green pants, a black sweat shirt with "Sweden" in red letters and flip-flops. She has no medication, wallet or phone with her. Her parents have launched a full-scale effort to find her, asking that she communicate to them that she is safe. Last month, the reward for the missing teen was increased to $10,000. Contrary to earlier reports of sightings of Lomax in the weeks after she left the mental health facility, today's press announcement of her disappearance says she has not been seen since she walked away from the center. "We had some sightings that we thought were pretty good at the beginning. We've since ruled those out," said Amanda Ernst, a spokeswoman for the search effort. blogs.sacbee.com/crime/archives/2012/08/marc-klaas-poised-to-aid-in-search-for-missing-placerville-teen.html

Linnea Lomax Case: Body Of Missing UC Davis Student Found Near Sacramento River Sep 11, 2012 A body found along the American River in California has been confirmed as that of missing UC Davis student Linnea Lomax. The cause and manner of death are under investigation. Sacramento County Coroner Greg Wyatt said, "Foul play does not appear to be a factor at this point." According to the Sacramento Police Department, a volunteer search team was looking for Lomax in the area of Glenn Hall Park on Friday morning. The team discovered the badly decomposed remains at about 10 a.m., in a heavily wooded area just north of the park. The search team notified the police, and homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the location. Due to the advanced decomposition of the body, preliminary investigations were unable to determine cause and time of death. According to Lomax family spokeswoman Amanda Ernst, arrangements for a "Celebration of Life service" are being made. "Her parents will be making their first public statement [about the discovery] at 10 a.m. (CST)," Ernst told HuffPost. "They'll make a statement and announce the time of her services." Lomax, a 19-year-old student at the University of California, Davis, was last seen alive at an outpatient clinic on Howe Avenue in Sacramento on June 26. She was at the clinic for an all-day visit, but she walked out for lunch and never came back, Lomax's friend, Heidi Hutchison, told The Huffington Post. According to Hutchison, Lomax had suffered a mental breakdown while studying for finals. A 2011 graduate of El Dorado High School in Placerville, Calif., she had just completed her freshman year at UC Davis in June. She had a 4.0 grade point average and was studying human development, with the intent of pursuing a degree in nursing. The young woman spent more than a week at a treatment facility, but was released for outpatient therapy after she showed progress. Lomax's parents operate Rock-N-Water Christian Camp in Northern California. According to the organization's website, the purpose of the camp is to "experience the joy of God's living word through adventures in the outdoors." Lomax had worked at the camp for the past several summers as a counselor for teens. Multiple searches had been conducted for Lomax, and late last month authorities received their first solid lead when a notebook belonging to her was found near the American River bike trail. The location is not far from the medical center where she was receiving treatment and not far from where her body was later found, police said. Members of HelpFindLinnea.org posted a message about the tragic discovery to their website. "She has gone to be with her Lord. Yet in our sorrow we do not despair, knowing we will see her again one day," the message reads. www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2012/09/11/linnea-lomax-found-dead_n_1873889.html

Linnea Lomax's Mother Found Daughter Hanging From A Tree Near A Sacramento River Sep 12, 2012 The heartbroken mother of University of California, Davis, student Linnea Lomax said she is the one who discovered her daughter's body hanging from a tree near the American River in Sacramento, Calif., this past Friday morning. "We stood there and we smelled a bad smell, and we were smelling every plant around trying to figure out what it could be," an emotional Marianne Lomax explained at a press conference Tuesday. Lomax said the smell led her to some thick brush underneath a tree. She said she bent down and crawled through the foliage. "I crawled through on my knees and hands, and I came to a pretty place right by the river, and the river was there and there was really nothing else there, and then I saw my daughter," she said. "I looked for two seconds, and I knew that was her. I ran up screaming and called 911, and that's how it went." Marianne Lomax made the horrific discovery while searching in the area of Glenn Hall Park with volunteers from the KlaasKids Foundation. Due to the advanced decomposition of the body, preliminary investigations were unable to determine cause and time of death. According to Linnea Lomax's father, Craig Lomax, his daughter took her own life. "It is clear to us that, after a fairly quick onset of mental illness, her delusional fears overcame her to such an extreme that she committed suicide by hanging herself," he said. The 19-year-old student was last seen alive at an outpatient clinic on Howe Avenue in Sacramento on June 26. She was at the clinic for an all-day visit, but she walked out for lunch and never came back, her friend Heidi Hutchison told The Huffington Post. The young woman spent more than a week at a treatment facility. After she showed progress, she was released for outpatient therapy. Multiple searches were conducted for Lomax, and late last month authorities received their first solid lead when a notebook belonging to her was found near the American River bike trail. The location was not far from the medical center where she was receiving treatment and not far from where her body was later found, police said. Craig Lomax said he and his wife are still trying to understand what went wrong. "Up until this last spring, no one ever suspected she might someday become a victim of mental illness," he said. "Her earthly future was filled with the promise of a life with lots of joy, love and meaning. She is our dear sweet daughter who could not be loved more by us or her brother and sister. Our pain is great because our love is great." Marianne Lomax said she had been praying that God would help her find Linnea, and she said her prayers were answered. "I believe that God brought me to her, and there's closure because of that." According to Lomax family spokeswoman Amanda Ernst, a "celebration of life" service will be held for Linnea Lomax on the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 22, at Green Valley Community Church in Placerville. www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2012/09/12/linnea-lomax-found_n_1878054.html
