Urgent search continues for missing Plano woman

PLANO — Plano police have asked for the public's help to find a woman who vanished on Friday afternoon.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter and a search and rescue team with dogs was set to join the search for Janice Klein, 47, who hasn't been seen since she told her daughter she was going to sit in the backyard of her home in the 4500 block of Salerno Circle.

Her family has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to her return. They said Klein had been suffering from stomach pains and headaches before she went missing, and her family is concerned that she might have become disoriented.

Investigators said they have no reason to believe foul play is involved in Klein's disappearance; personal items including her purse, cell phone and vehicle are not missing.

"Leaving without her ID is very puzzling," said Plano police spokesman Andrae Smith. "We hope we can figure it out soon."

Police search and rescue teams with dogs checked Klein's backyard and nearby streets looking for clues.

More than 400 volunteers joined the neighborhood search for Klein on Saturday. Lauri Smith and her family helped distribute hundreds of fliers with Klein's photo all across Plano. Klein, a former teacher at Prestonwood Christian Academy, tutored Smith's daughter in math.

"I wanted to come out and help any way we can," said Klein's friend Lauri Smith. "She's just a precious, precious lady. We love her family. We are just concerned about her."

Some of the volunteer teams focused on the area near Park Boulevard and Preston Road, more than three miles from Klein's home, where a manager at the Williams-Sonoma store told police that a woman matching her description was seen on Friday afternoon.

No surveillance video was available, but investigators were talking with the manager.

Klein is described as white female 5'-5" tall, 145 lbs., with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a green shirt with gray pants.

Neighbors Search for Missing Plano Woman

Neighbors and friends from the Janice Klein's church spent Saturday searching for the missing woman from Plano.

They showed up at the Klein home in the Preston Meadows and Spring Creek area around sunrise. They started taking fliers to homes and businesses in the area after their friend basically vanished.

“Her keys, car, credit cards phone are all here. We’re all just wanting to know where she is this morning," Klein's husband Robert said.

Robert Klein says he left his house around 1:30 Friday afternoon. His wife Janice and daughter were home. When he got back around 4:00 p.m., he asked where his wife was. His daughter didn't see her leave. Neighbors said they hadn't seen her. Klein said his wife hadn’t been feeling great lately suffering from headaches but there was no indication she would take off.

Plano Police say there’s also no evidence of foul play.

The first possible lead came late Saturday morning. A manager from a nearby Williams Sonoma, told volunteers with fliers he may have seen Janice Klein in his store Friday afternoon. That’s it so far.

“We don’t know where to turn,” says Robert Klein.

Janice Klein is 37 years old, blonde with blue eyes, stand 5’5” and weighs about 150 pounds. She was last seen wearing a green shirt and grey pants.

Search underway for missing Plano woman Jun 23, 2012

Family and friends are searching a Plano neighborhood for a missing Plano woman.

47 year old Janice Klein disappeared from the backyard of her Plano home Friday afternoon according to Plano police spokesman Andrea Smith. The woman told family members she was going to sit in the backyard and has not been seen since. Smith says the woman's purse, cell phone and car keys were left inside the house.

Saturday morning friends and family began passing out flyers in the neighborhood where the woman lived. Police say Klein is 47 years old, weighs 145 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Police do not suspect foul play in the woman's disappearance.

Questions remain after missing Plano woman found safe at D/FW

PLANO - The husband of a Plano woman who went missing for two-and-a-half days before she was found safe thanked all those that helped in the search for the 47-year-old mother over the weekend.

Speaking to the media from the couple's Plano home Monday morning, Rob Klein said his wife, Janice, is now safe at home, catching up on sleep after undergoing treatment at a Dallas hospital Sunday night for severe dehydration.

He said he was still out searching for her at 11:17 p.m. Sunday when he got the call that she had been found. Police at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport found the missing woman inside an airport restroom, where she was apparently not feeling well.

Mr. Klein said his wife was very disoriented and dehydrated when the two were reunited, and she was wearing the same clothes she had on Friday when she seemed to vanish from their backyard.

There were still few answers as to where she was over the weekend and how she ended up at the airport, but Mr. Klein said his wife did have a train ticket in her pocket and spoke of riding on a train. But from there, the details remain fuzzy.

Mr. Klein said he does not know how his wife got to the airport or how she bought a train ticket since she left home without her wallet, car keys or cell phone. The husband said he believes "bits and pieces" of what happened will eventually come out, and the couple will deal with it then. For now, Mr. Klein said "they're done with it," and focusing on her safe return home.

Mr. Klein said he's grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who spent their weekend searching for his wife. He also thanked the media, saying the DFW Police spotted the media reports about his missing wife, then recognized her when they saw her in one of the airport restrooms.

Missing Plano Woman Back Home, but Where Was She?

PLANO— ¿After a grueling search, much of which was organized and funded by friends and family of Janice Klein, Robert Klein couldn't be any happier to have his wife back home.

"She just said, 'We found her. We got her. Come get her,'" said Robert Klein, of the call he received Sunday night.

With that call from a Plano Police detective, the search was called off.

Janice Klein, 47, was discovered in a public restroom in Terminal D of DFW airport. She was dehydrated and disoriented.

When police asked who she was, she gave them the wrong name.

"We don't know whether that was caused from some type of medical stress or anything like that. We don't real know," said Ofc David Tilley, Plano Police spokesman.

The questions about how Janice Klein spent her weekend only begin there.

"I think the pieces might come back in bits and pieces, but we'll take that as it comes," said Robert Klein.

DFW airport is nearly 30 miles from the Kleins' Plano home. She left without any money or any identification.

"How she got there and how she ended up at DFW, I don't know," said Robert Klein.

Klein says us he found a train ticket in his wife's pocket when she was at the hospital, which adds more questions. The home is miles from the nearest commuter train line.

"She thinks she remembers being on a train, and the train ticket in her pocket confirms that. How she got there, that's all pretty fuzzy," said Klein.

According to Klein, that's all his wife remembers, and he's not pressing for more.

"She's safe. She's completely unharmed, uninjured. If it comes back in bits and pieces, we'll piece it together, but we're not going to try to put a timeline together," said Klein.

Plano police say there are no signs of any criminal activity. Unless there are, this is case closed.

"It's not against the law to go missing. People are entitled to their private lives, and they have a right to their privacy. As long as we can't determine that a criminal act has taken place, then we pretty much close out the case and move on," said Tilley.
