A family is asking for help in locating a missing teen.
Kyrsten Kirby, 14, of Waldorf was reported missing by her mother at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Mary Kirby said she and her daughter had been watching television together before Kyrsten excused herself to go to get a drink. After a while of her not coming back, Kirby went to check on her daughter.
Kirby said Kyrsten said she wasn't feeling well. Kirby came back to check on her several minutes later and she was gone.
Kirby said it appeared that she left the fan and the light on in the bathroom to look as if she were in the bathroom.
Kyrsten had previously been caught either sneaking out of the house or sneaking back in and was on restriction at the time of her disappearance, Kirby said.
Kirby said she had thought the two of them had worked out any issues and they were gearing up for Kyrsten's first year of high school.
After discovering her daughter was missing, Kirby called the Charles County Sheriff's Office and an officer went to Kyrsten's boyfriend's to see if she was there.
Kirby said Kyrsten was at the boyfriend's house but fled when police arrived.
Since Sunday morning, there have been reports of people seeing Kyrsten in Waldorf neighborhoods, including Lancaster and Bannister.
Kirby has put out fliers with information and a photo of her daughter.
Kyrsten is 5 feet 3 inches with hazel-green eyes and dark brown hair.
“We just want her back,” Kirby said.
Charles County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson said “certainly we want to hear from anyone who knows of her whereabouts.”
Richardson said anyone with information can contact the sheriff's office at 301-932-2222.
