Search for missing Tempe woman shifts to lake
Posted: Jun 16, 2013 11:44 PM CDT Updated: Jun 17, 2013 11:03 PM CDT TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -Tempe police have shifted their search for a missing 19-year-old college student to Tempe Town Lake. Officers said Adrienne Salinas was last heard from at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday when she called a friend to say she was coming over. She never arrived. Salinas' father found her car on Sunday near Brown and Roosevelt streets - about two blocks from her apartment on Ash Avenue. Salinas' family told CBS 5 News they knew something was very wrong when she never called her dad Sunday to wish him a happy Father's Day. Authorities Monday night were using robots with sonar to search the lake bottom. The only reason they are searching the lake is to rule out the possibility that she might be in there, officers said. The lake search was scheduled to continue until midnight. If you have any information on Salinas' whereabouts, call Tempe police. www.kpho.com/story/22605943/tempe-police-search-for-missing-woman

Adrienne Salinas Missing: Arizona Woman Vanished After Early Morning Car Accident
Posted: 06/20/2013 When Adrienne Salinas failed to call her dad on Father's Day, her family knew something was wrong. Three days later, authorities in Tempe, Az., announced a search for the 19-year-old student, last seen early in the morning of June 15, before leaving to visit her boyfriend in Scottsdale. Police say that Salinas "was involved in a single vehicle accident at about 3:44 AM." Both of her vehicle's front tires were flattened. “She was upset and wanted to go talk to her boyfriend about it," her roommate, Shaney Duggan, told MyFoxPhoenix. "Along the way there she hit a curb, her tires popped." Salinas called a cab and asked the driver to meet her at a nearby gas station, but she never showed, investigators told CBS5. According to the police: "Adrienne’s vehicle was located the following day, approximately one block away from her apartment and was locked and did not appear to have any signs of any foul play involved." Officials searched Tempe Town Lake for the missing woman, though they acknowledged there are no specific leads to suggest that her body is in the water, ABC 15 reports. The station also said Salinas left her apartment after a night of drinking. Salinas is described as a Hispanic female, 5-feet 6-inches tall, 110 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes. She has a tattoo of the sun on her neck near her left ear. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Tempe Police at (480) 966-6211 or (480) 350-8311.www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/20/adrienne-salinas-missing-arizona_n_3471678.html

Missing college student, 19, crashes car and vanishes two blocks from home
Police are searching for missing woman Adrienne Salinas, a student at Gateway Community College, who disappeared on her way to visit her boyfriend in Tempe, Ariz. Police in Arizona are searching for Adrienne Salinas, a 19-year-old student at Gateway Community College, who vanished after a night of drinking Saturday.
Police are searching for a 19-year-old woman who mysteriously vanished after crashing her car during a night of drinking. Adrienne Salinas' roommates say the raven-haired college student was last seen at 3 a.m. Saturday when she took off from their apartment to drive to her boyfriend's home in Tempe, Ariz. Police say the Gateway Community College student never made it, and her terrified father found her car stranded with flat tires only two blocks from her home. A driver told police they witnessed her vehicle crashing into a parkway median earlier in the morning, likely causing the damage. The driver tried to help her, but she drove away. Police say at 4:47 a.m., the last time anyone heard from her, she texted her boyfriend saying she was still on her way to his apartment. Adrienne Salinas’ distraught father, who found her mangled vehicle two blocks from her apartment with its tires flat, said he knew something was really wrong when she didn’t call on Father’s Day. Less than 20 minutes later, her cellphone was turned off.
"Something happened between those two short blocks to her apartment and her car," her devastated father Rick Salinas told ABC15. "Something took place." Along with the mangled vehicle's discovery, police say the teen's car doors were locked, her overnight bag was gone and there was no sign of a struggle.
Sgt. Mike Pooley of the Tempe police department says there are currently no suspects in the case, adding that, as of now, "there's really nothing to indicate there was a crime." Late Monday night authorities with a dive team worked to comb the nearby Tempe Town Lake. Adrienne Salinas: Tempe mystery reeks of foul play
Tempe : AZ : USA | Jul 02, 2013 at 4:51 AM PDT It's been over two weeks and Adrienne Salinas still hasn't been found -- which indicates that she could be the victim of foul play. It's perplexing that there is such a lack of evidence in this case leading investigators in one direction or the other, so as it stands this case is still officially a missing persons investigation. Nonetheless, there are numerous elements at play in this disappearance that just reek of foul play, and it's highly likely that the 19-year-old Tempe, Ariz. woman met some kind of demise. Tempe authorities have been searching alongside FBI agents in the Tempe area -- an operation that kicked up into overdrive over the weekend with more than 100 officers. However, there have still been no signs of Adrienne. If this disappearance was another case of a drunk coed drowning or wandering off into the desert, her body would have already been located by now. If someone harmed this missing woman, then they would likely hide the proof of any violent encounter. There aren't many details in this case to lead in any direction, but it has been revealed that a taxi driver's home and car have been searched. However, he has not been called out as a suspect so it doesn't seem that he had anything to do with her disappearance. Other than this, there don't appear to be any persons of interest or suspects. Is it at all likely that a random predator kidnapped Adrienne Salinas? If so, there is still a possibility that she's alive somewhere surrounding Tempe -- or otherwise anywhere in the State of Ariz., or beyond with as long as she's been missing at this point. While it's statistically likely that she met some kind of violent demise not long after her disappearance, there is always the possibility that someone is keeping her captive -- much like the shocking Amanda Berry case and other similar cases of prolonged captivity. Without any actual evidence pointing in one direction or the other, it's hard to determine with any certainty what might have happened to Adrienne. What's known is that she fought with her boyfriend before leaving her apartment to go to his home. This was the last time anyone saw her before her wrecked vehicle was found. She could've been injured by the car accident, but it's simply not known what happened to the 19-year-old Tempe, Ariz. woman. It also doesn't help that officials in Ariz. are being tightlipped about her case. www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/14912092-adrienne-salinas-tempe-mystery-reeks-of-foul-play

Boyfriend of missing Adrienne Salinas speaks out Posted: Jul 06, 2013 11:42 PM CDT Updated: Jul 07, 2013 9:21 AM CDTTEMPE, AZ (CBS5) - It has been three weeks since Adrienne Salinas went missing. Family and friends of the Tempe teen have been handing out fliers all over the Valley hoping someone will recognize her and come forward with information. Both Tempe police and the FBI are working the case with no break so far. Salinas' boyfriend, Francisco Arteaga, was one of the last people to see her before she disappeared in the early morning hours of June 15. Tempe police told CBS5 News he is not a suspect or a person of interest and has been very cooperative with them. Arteaga said the last he heard from Salinas was around 4:40 a.m. on June 15 - a half hour before her cell phone went dead. The text message read, "I'm coming over." But, she never did. "It's the hardest thing ever," said Arteaga. "It's impossible not to think about her. It's impossible. There's never been a week where I haven't seen her. It's been three weeks now. It's scary." Arteaga and Salinas grew up together and have dated on and off for several years. He described the missing 19-year-old as his best friend. "We have so many childhood memories, so many memories," Arteaga said. "And, that's what's keeping me strong." Since Salinas went missing from her Tempe neighborhood near Hardy and Fifth Street, Arteaga – along with Salinas' family and many friends – have plastered the city with posters of the young woman. They've even started a Facebook page to spread the word. "It's impossible for her to have just vanished into thin air," said Rick Salinas, Adrienne Salinas' father. "Somebody knows something. And, we're just pleading with that person, that someone, to just come forward and give us information so that we can get her back." Rick Salinas describes the past few weeks without his daughter as "living a nightmare." He's heartbroken – yet, trying to remain strong. He said those who love his daughter have no choice but to hold on to hope. "We can't waste any energy or thought on the worst-case scenario," said Rick Salinas. "I mean, there's no reason for that." Arteaga has that same determination. The focus is finding Adrienne Salinas – no exception. "We're not going to give up until we find out what happened," said Arteaga. "It's important that we keep the word out there. We have to. We're her only – we're her voice." If you have any information that could help in the search for Adrienne Salinas call Tempe police at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. A $10,000 reward is being offered for her safe return. www.kpho.com/story/22775373/boyfriend-of-missing-adrienne-salinas-speaks-out

Adrienne Salinas missing for 1 month; search continues Posted: Jul 15, 2013 8:44 AM CDT Updated: Jul 15, 2013 9:28 AM CDTPHOENIX - July 15 marks one month since Adrienne Salinas seemingly vanished into thin air. The 19-year-old student from Tempe hasn't been heard from since her car became stranded after she'd been to a party. The Gateway Community College student was last seen near Brown and Roosevelt Streets around 5 a.m. on a Saturday morning in June. She was supposed to go over to her boyfriend's house, but never made it. Her father found her car a few blocks from where she was last seen. The car had some front-end damage and two flat tires. Police believe Salinas was involved in an accident. The doors were locked, the overnight bag she packed was gone and there were no signs of a struggle. According to phone records, Adrienne had called for a cab. The driver headed to pick her up at an AM/PM convenience store, but she never showed up.
Since then, people have been canvassing the neighborhood looking for clues, but none so far. Police even searched the bottom of Tempe Town Lake. Authorities say they don't have reason to believe her body is in the water, but they searched it with sonar to make sure.
Her family is trying to keep her face before the public, hoping someone knows something. If you have any information about this case, call Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS.

Police report: 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas left home after argument with boyfriend TEMPE, AZ - A Tempe Police report is shedding light on the final hours and actions before a 19-year-old student went missing last month. Adrienne Salinas reportedly argued with her boyfriend and packed a small bag before she disappeared. Francisco Arteaga told police Salinas was upset with him after a party at her apartment because she felt he “was not paying enough attention to her,” according to the report. The two left the party and argued as they drove to and from his Scottsdale apartment. Arteaga then told officers when he came up to a stop light at 5th Street and Mill Avenue in Tempe, Salinas got out of his car and began walking home. Arteaga says he also got out of the car to give Salinas her cell phone that she had left on the passenger seat of the car. Arteaga then showed officers his phone records showing that he made a call shortly afterwards to one of Salinas’ roommates to tell them she was walking home. The roommate, Rebecca Flores, told officers she went looking for Salinas on her bike but didn’t find her. When Flores returned to their apartment, she found Salinas and said she was “calmly upset” over the argument with Arteaga. After the two spoke outside on the grass, Salinas went upstairs to her bedroom and packed a small bag, though Flores did not see her leave. Police said Salinas’ roommates were concerned because she never leaves without her dog or making sure someone is caring for her dog. Also in the police report is the report of a driver who spotted a white car similar to Salinas’ white 2002 Mercury Sable driving erratically behind her. The driver told officers she first noticed the car on Hardy Drive following extremely close. As the driver turned onto Rio Salado Parkway, the driver of the white car sped up and again was following too close. The white car then sped up to about 65 mph and passed her. Shortly afterwards when the woman turned at Ash Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway, she saw a “large amount of smoke from the tires and dirt in the air." She told officers the car had hit a curb, but when she stopped to help, the driver of the white car sped off “on damaged tires.” Adrienne Salinas was last seen around 5 a.m. on June 15. Her vehicle, which had two flat tires, was later located by her father. On June 15, the teenager called a local cab company and asked to be picked up to visit her boyfriend in Scottsdale. She never made it to the cab or to her boyfriend's house. Family and friends have been praying and passing out fliers in local neighborhoods hoping someone has information that can lead them to Salinas. A reward of $10,000 is being offered. If you have any information on Adrienne's whereabouts, you are asked to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311. www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_southeast_valley/tempe/police-report-19-year-old-adrienne-salinas-left-home-after-argument-with-boyfriend

Adrienne Salinas update: Boyfriend not a suspect July 19, 2013 09:09 AM EDT Tempe, Ariz. woman Adrienne Salinas still hasn't been located, but officials have released more information in her case. Her boyfriend has also spoken to the media a second time, expressing sadness that she has not yet returned. Officials have also declared that her boyfriend is not a suspect in her disappearance -- even though he was among the last people to see her, and the two had been fighting the night she vanished. If her boyfriend is not a suspect in her disappearance, then this could very well be a stranger-related crime. It should be noted that the taxi driver that responded to her calls after wrecking her car has been investigated. Investigators are being tightlipped about the guy, not releasing his name or other details that could identify him. They've also not necessarily cleared the man of any involvement with Adrienne's case. So does that mean there's a possibility that the cab driver is behind all of this? If so, that would explain some of the strange details in this case. On the other hand, it could have been someone else involved with the party she attended that night. There were reportedly several people in her apartment when she and her boyfriend fought, so it wouldn't be surprising for an opportunistic person to prey on the missing woman, knowing that all eyes would be on her boyfriend. Hopefully some answers come soon, but it doesn't look like there will be a positive ending. news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981904845

Adrienne Salinas update: Everyone should be a suspectJul 26, 2013Adrienne Salinas still hasn't been found -- and it has been over a month since anyone last saw the missing Tempe, Ariz. woman. Now officials have released surveillance footage of the last moments this woman has been traced before her strange disappearance. Clearly the cab driver that last spoke to this woman on the phone was the last person (confirmed) to have any contact with her -- so what gives? It should be noted that the cab driver in particular works for his father, who swears up and down that his boy didn't do anything. The cabbie might not have done anything, but it should be noted that officials confirm that they've investigated and questioned him more than once in connection to Adrienne's disappearance -- though nobody has referred to him as a person of interest or a suspect. At this point in the search for Adrienne, everyone should be a suspect. The details surrounding the night she vanished are shaky at best, meaning that investigators truly can't take anything her friends say for face value. She had been partying the night she vanished -- everyone had been -- and she fought with her boyfriend, who found it necessary to call her roommates to let them know that the two fought and that she was pretty much walking home. It almost feels like he was trying to establish an alibi, because it seems unnecessary to call her roommates for a problem that her friends have referred to as a frequent occurrence. Hopefully detectives in Maricopa County aren't cutting corners with this case, because it wouldn't be the first disappearance or murder to go unsolved in the valley. With this timeline being what it is, it's hard not to speculate that someone who knew this woman preyed upon her. On the other hand, Adrienne Salinas may have been targeted by a random person who saw her as a vulnerable and easy target while she reportedly waited for the taxi to come pick her up. This case is indeed a mystery, and even though officials declare that her boyfriend and the taxi driver are cleared as suspects, it just seems like it is too soon to declare such a thing. Do officials know more about what happened to her than they are releasing to the public? www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/15069628-adrienne-salinas-update-everyone-should-be-a-suspect

Surveillance video offers few clues in case of missing Tempe teen Posted: Jul 24, 2013 10:54 PM CDT Updated: Jul 25, 2013 4:47 PM CDTTEMPE, AZ (CBS5) - Police have released never-before-seen surveillance video from the gas station where a missing Tempe teen was supposed to meet a cab. Nineteen-year-old Adrienne Salinas went missing near an apartment at 5th Street and Hardy, almost six weeks ago. The night she went missing, she and her roommates had a party, and Adrienne Salinas got into a fight with her boyfriend. She also crashed her car, so she called a cab to pick her up at a nearby AM/PM, but she never showed up. Police still have no leads, but are hoping that changes after releasing this video. Meanwhile, Adrienne Salinas' father said he is not giving up on finding his daughter. "It's an indescribable pain," said Rick Salinas. "It's hard to get through each day not knowing. It's the not knowing that's eating at me, not knowing if she's in pain, is she ok, is she safe." And the surveillance video released by Tempe police doesn't offer many answers. The video shows the cab that was supposed to pick Adrienne Salinas up, arriving at the gas station around 5 o'clock, the morning of June 15th. The driver waits, and then drives off. But one of the missing pieces to this puzzle is Adrienne Salinas. "Adrienne not being there at the AM/PM is obviously a big part of the mystery," said Tempe police sergeant Michael Pooley. He said they've interviewed hundreds of people, including Adrienne's boyfriend, whom she called 32 times in the span of 40 minutes, and the cab driver. But they're no closer to solving her disappearance. "The cab driver has been very cooperative, we've compared his GPS location to his cell phone, and everything is consistent to his story at this time," Pooley said. They're hoping someone recognizes themselves or a friend in the video, and will call in. "You were out in that area around the time Adrienne went missing, and we just want to know what you saw in the area," Pooley said. In a surveillance video, at a nearby auto shop, a Hispanic woman is walking around that time in the morning, but Rick Salinas said he went into the police station and looked at the video, and it was not Adrienne Salinas. "I just pray everyday that she'll come home safely, so I can hold her again, and hear her voice and her laugh, I just miss her," Rick Salinas said. www.kpho.com/story/22926881/surveillance-video-may-offer

Adrienne Salinas missing for 2 months; family continues search
Posted: Aug 10, 2013 10:39 PM CDT Updated: Aug 10, 2013 11:12 PM CDT TEMPE, Ariz. -It's been two months since anyone has seen 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas. The Tempe woman disappeared after leaving a party. She was headed to her boyfriend's house, ran into trouble, called a cab and vanished. Those closest to Adrienne are not giving up hope on finding her. The FBI is on the hunt for the young woman -- and her family continues to ask the public for any help in locating their loved one. "There's still a beautiful young lady that is missing.. that someone would come forward and give us more information," said Adrienne's father, Rick Salinas. Rick gave up his day job to work full time to find his daughter. "It's a living nightmare.. part of your life.. missing," he said. "I know she loved life and was joyful all the time," said Adrienne's aunt, Dalia Job. "She just loved life, so it's really hard for her not to be here." Every few weeks, family and friends gather for vigils to pass out flyers to keep the word out about their loved one, but the meetings are getting smaller. One month ago, several dozen people showed up. Just a handful were there on Saturday. "We don't want it to just die out and everybody forget because we are not going to forget. We are not going to forget," said Dalia. Rick waits for more people to show up and pass out flyers to keep his daughter's face alive in the minds of all. "I'm just torn apart. My heart's broken. I got to do this to keep the story alive so people know it's still unsolved." There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to Adrienne's whereabouts. "We don't know where the body came from," said Sgt. Mike Pooley, a spokesman for the Tempe Police Department. The remains were sent to the Pima County medical examiner. He tells her she is on her way. 5:06 a.m. -- Cab drivers says he calls Salinas but no one answers. Her phone goes dead. UPDATE 7/18/13 - For information has come out from the police. They stated that Francisco Arteago has passed several lie detector tests and he is not a person of interest in the disappearance of Adrienne.
The police also talked about what happened before she disappeared. They stated that Francisco told them they Adrienne had gotten mad at him because she didn't think he was paying enough attention to her. She told him to go, but then followed him to the car and got in and told him to take her to his house in Scottsdale. On the way there they continued to argue. When they got to his house they still were arguing so Francisco went outside. When he came back in Adrienne was gone and then he saw her walking toward Indian School Road. He caught up to her in his car and told her he would take her home. She got in but when he got to a red light at Fifth Street and Mill Avenue, Adrienne got out of the car leaving her phone. Francisco said he saw her phone and he brought it to her and then watched her walk away towards her apartment. Arteaga told police he Adrienne called 11 times between 4:10 a.m. and 4:17 a.m., including a text message that stated "I'm coming over," sent at 4:43 a.m., that he didn't answer. Police also stated that surveillance video from O'Reilly Auto Parts at 1002 W. University showed a woman that looked like Adrienne walking through the west parking lot of the store at 4:52 a.m. A dark four-door vehicle is also seen heading northbound through the same parking lot two minutes later, according to the police report. UPDATE 7/1/13 - The father of the cab driver has come forward to discuss what happened when his son was suppose to pick up Adrienne. According to Thomas Simon, owner of Scottsdale Cab Guy, his son, Tom was on his way to pick up Adrienne and was in contact with her by phone.
Simon said his son called Salinas at 5:04 a.m. and 5:05 a.m. to make sure she was headed to the gas station. He said at 5:06 a.m., Salinas called his son, saying she'd be there in a minute. Then he called Salinas at 5:07 a.m. looking for her, but the phone went to voicemail. Simon also said his son got out of the cab and looked around for Adrienne but didn't see her. Tom's home has been searched and a DNA sample was taken. Police look very carefully at the last person that is known to have been in contact with the missing person. No word what Tom did after that event, like whether his shift was over or he went home or went to another call. Another interesting detail about this case is the 911 call that came in. The woman told the dispatcher that there may have been two people in the car during the accident. Is is possible that someone was with Adrienne this whole time. Someone was with her during the car accident, someone was with her when she went back to her house (there is still not definite conclusion whether she went back to the house or not) and someone was with her when she called a cab? UPDATE: 6/30/13 - Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday morning did an extensive search for Adrienne. They set up a command post near Hardy Drive and Brown Street and more than 30 officials searched the area and asked the public questions. They have also spoken with the FBI to make sure they have done everything they could to search for Andrienne. Maricopa County Sheriff's you rock! and we appreciate you and what you are doing to find Adrienne. We wish there were more officials like you. You are an example of what a police dept. should be. Previous story: Adrienne Salinas, 19, from Tempe, Arizona has been missing since Saturday, June 15. She is a students at Gateway Community College and she left her apartment at 3 a.m. and told her roommates she was going to drive to her boyfriend's home in Scottsdale. Police say said there has been no trace of her since 5:05 a.m. that morning, when she called a cab, but a cabdriver was unable to find her. There was a report of an accident at Ash and Rio Salado Parkway and Adrienne's car was found a block away with the front end damaged and two flat tires. A witness actually saw the car strike a median and then speed away. There is no verification that Adrienne was driving the car. Body found in Apache Junction may be Adrienne Salinas Updated: Aug 15, 2013 2:06 PM CDT APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (AP) - Dozens of law enforcement officers are searching a desert area on the eastern outskirts of the Phoenix area after finding skeletal remains that may be those of a missing 19-year-old college student from Tempe. Tempe police say the remains found Aug. 6 in a wash in a sparsely populated area of Apache Junction haven't been formally identified but that they have similarities with Adrienne Salinas. Sgt. Mike Pooley says they're waiting on DNA to confirm the identity of the body.
Salinas has been missing since early the morning of June 15 while heading to her boyfriend's home. Police say she never got there. Police have searched the area near State Route 88 several times since the initial discovery and returned Thursday with over 100 people to search a larger area. Crews continued to search through the morning's heat and are expected to start looking again early Friday morning. Skeletal remains found in Apache Junction possibly those of Adrienne Salinas; Desert search to resume Fri.
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. – Officers with the Apache Junction and Tempe police departments and FBI search teams spent Thursday morning scouring a desert area in Apache Junction after the discovery of skeletal remains that might be those of Adrienne Salinas, the Tempe 19-year-old who has been missing for two months. The remains were found just southeast of Highway 88 and Lost Dutchman Boulevard on Tuesday, Aug. 6. A property owner made the discovery near a wash on his land near Foothill Street and Goldfield Road. Those remains, which were in such bad shape that investigators could not visually determine if the body was that of a male or female, have been sent to the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office in Tucson. “While no formal identification has been made yet, these skeletal remains have similarities to that of missing 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas,” Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley said in a news release.
Pooley declined say more about those "similarities," explaining that investigators are waiting on DNA. He said the DNA results will not be available for at least a week, possibly longer. "Tempe is pretty much the only agency that has somebody that matches these same characteristics that we found out here," Pooley said.
While there have been several searches since the remains were found last week, Thursday's operation is more extensive. “The area where the remains were located has been searched several times since the recovery, but today investigators from multiple agencies will search an even larger area, much of it consisting of rough terrain,” Pooley continued. “Searchers will be looking for any evidence which may be related to the remains discovered.” Aerial video from Chopper 3 showed dozens of people at a command post and more scouring the desert brush. "There are well over 100 people out here," Pooley told Rafols, explaining that the search area is massive. "We're looking for any kind of clues that might help us solve this case. ... This is hopefully going to be a key piece to this investigation. That's why it's important that we are out here ...." Pooley said detectives do not know if the body was dumped in the area or if it was washed down in a recent flood.
Search teams were on site for hours Thursday, but wrapped up their operation for the day shortly after noon. Between the excessive heat and encounters with numerous rattlesnakes, the conditions for searchers were difficult at best. Crews planned to resume their search operation Friday morning. It's not clear how long they will be out there. Salinas vanished the morning of June 15. She was last seen in Tempe. Police say she was on her way to her boyfriend's house when she got into a wreck near Hardy and University drives. Her abandoned car, two of its tires flat, was later found there. According to cellphone records, Salinas called a cab to pick her up at an AMPM. The driver said she was not there when he arrived. Detectives eventually ruled out both that cab driver and Salinas' boyfriend as suspects in the young woman's disappearance. At this point, police do not have any suspects in the case. Pooley said if the remains are that of Salinas, investigators will go back and take another look at everybody, even those previously cleared.
"Nothing is off the table as we speak right now," Pooley told Rafols. Police have been in contact with Salinas' family, keeping them apprised of these developments. "Her family was notified last week when the body was found," Pooley said. "We've been in constant communication with them throughout the investigation, and we were talking with them again last night about what was going to be happening today." 3TV 's Javier Soto, who has covered this story from the beginning, spoke to Salinas' father, Rick Salinas, Thursday morning as the search was under way. Rick Salinas told Soto he was heartbroken and "too sick" for words. He declined to say anything more about the search and the possibility that his daughter might be dead.www.azfamily.com/news/Skeletal-remains-in-Apache-Junction-possibly-those-of-Adrienne-Salinas-219763351.html

Body found in Apache Junction is that of Adrienne Salinas Posted: Aug 15, 2013 8:36 AM CDT Updated: Aug 16, 2013 9:36 AM CDT
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Investigators who have had little luck in unraveling the mystery of an Arizona college student's disappearance two months ago came across their most promising lead when badly decomposed human remains were found in a dry wash. Late Thursday afternoon, FOX 10 learned that DNA tests confirmed the remains were that of 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas. They're treating this as a homicide investigation, but there are no suspects at this point.Until the body was found, police had little go on, other than cellphone records showing calls she made to her boyfriend and a call to a taxi company. Investigators searched a lake in Tempe, canvassed her neighborhood on multiple occasions and interviewed hundreds of people. Salinas' family handed out fliers in hopes of getting a break in the case. The Gateway Community College student was seen by her roommates leaving their Tempe apartment in the early morning hours of June 15. She had packed a bag and told them she was headed to her boyfriend's home in Scottsdale. The boyfriend showed investigators he had 11 missed calls from Salinas around 4:15 a.m. the day she vanished, along with a text message that indicated she was on her way to his home, according to a police report. The boyfriend said she never arrived. The next day, police found Salinas' car about a block from her apartment. The doors were locked, the overnight bag she packed was gone, and there were no signs of a struggle. The car had front-end damage and two flat tires. The police report said a woman told authorities she saw a similar car at about 3:40 a.m. the morning Salinas vanished, speeding and moving erratically before it crashed into a curb, blowing out two tires. She said she pulled over and attempted to approach the vehicle, but the driver sped off. Pooley said the driver of the damaged car is believed to be Salinas.
Authorities say Salinas called for taxi from her cellphone at about 5:05 a.m. on June 15, but the arriving driver never found her, and her phone was soon turned off. The human remains were found Aug. 6 in a sparsely populated part of Apache Junction on the eastern outskirts of the Phoenix metropolitan area. On Thursday, searchers in a 6-mile-long area of the wash walked in a line, an arm's length apart, using shovels to look under sand and dirt that washed over the area in flooding from a recent storm. They looked for clothing, jewelry, her cellphone and any other evidence, he said.
Investigators have recovered unspecified items from the wash that will be shown to Salinas' friends and family for possible identification. Pooley said investigators believe the body likely was dumped in another location and was later washed downstream. The body was found by a man who was walking his property and was drawn to the area by vultures he saw.
Police will contact residents who live in homes in the area about whether they heard or saw anything suspicious or had surveillance video. If you have any information about this case, Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS or the Tempe Police at (480) 966-6211. www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/23145014/2013/08/15/body-found-in-apache-junction-may-be-adrienne-salienas

Medical examiner discusses Adrienne Salinas case Posted: Aug 20, 2013 10:48 PM CDT Updated: Aug 20, 2013 11:39 PM CDTPHOENIX - Police continue their investigation into the death of Adrienne Salinas. The 19-year-old woman was missing for 2 months before her body was found in the desert in Apache Junction. Police are searching for any clues that could help solve this mystery. How did Adrienne die? And how did her body end up more than 30 miles away from where she was last seen? Adrienne's body is now at the medical examiner's office undergoing forensic testing. So when a body has been decomposing in the Arizona desert for 2 months, how do investigators put the forensic pieces together to figure out what happened, and bring the killer to justice? We spoke to a veteran medical examiner about the Salinas case. "We're not there saying who did anything, we just say what happened. We are solely focused upon the individual who died -- how did they die, when did they die," says Dr. Philip Keen. Dr. Keen has spent his life's work as a medical examiner -- the last 14 years as Chief M.E. for Maricopa County. He says almost always they can figure out how a person died. But Adrienne Salinas' body decomposing in the desert for so long complicates things. "It is mostly in those bodies in which the condition of the bodies is such that too much time has elapsed so you don't have enough information to draw a conclusion." Police are combing a four mile section of wash near the superstitions, looking for clues. They believe Salinas' body was dumped there and may have been washed downstream by floodwaters. "You can have additional trauma hitting against rocks and debris in the wash, depends on the condition of the body when it first enters the wash, whether there was possibility of death at that site and left there or could have died somewhere else and dumped there." All crucial pieces of the puzzle. "One of the first things you look at is an X-ray of the body, look for evidence of fractures, evidence of foreign bodies and even in a decomposing body, if you look at patterns of hemorrhage in the decomposing body. You could for example identify a penetrating stabbing wound and its bleeding path." But ultimately, finding who did this will be the job of detectives. Dr. Keen says Pima County's Medical Examiner is handling the autopsy. And he says because it handles so many migrant deaths, that office is very experienced with bodies found in the desert. www.myfoxphoenix.com/story/23201702/2013/08/20/medical-examiner-discusses-adrienne-salinas-case

Woman claims she had 'intuition' Salinas body was in Apache Junction Updated: Aug 18, 2013 11:18 PM CDTAVONDALE, Ariz. - Police are still looking for clues as to how 19-year-old college student, Adrienne Salinas, died after her body was found in Apache Junction and identified last week. However, Salinas' family searched the same area weeks before her body was found.
Salinas was last seen in Tempe, but her body was found in Apache Junction, some 30 miles away. No one knows how she got there. But, some members of her family say they searched the same area before, at the direction of an Avondale woman who simply had a "feeling." "I can feel when they're present, when they're with me," said Alisa Fierro. She doesn't like the word "psychic," instead Alisa Fierro is what she calls, an "intuitive." "I'm an energy worker, a raeke master," said Fierro. Shortly after 19-year old Adrienne Salinas disappeared from Tempe in June, Fierro says Salinas' aunt, a new client of hers, asked if she could help. "As soon as I hung up with her, I started to receive impressions: how the dirt looked, the location. I started to see a map. I had to go right away to the Internet to look at the map of the area and it was at the base of Superstition Mountain," said Fierro. Salinas' aunt says some family members went to the area Fierro specified and called out for the missing 19-year-old, while keeping in contact with Fierro. "I was getting impressions, 'Please check in this area, check the restrooms, there could be something left behind,' so they did. They couldn't find anything," said Fierro. That was about five days after Salinas disappeared. Fast forward almost two months later and Salinas' body was found near the very area the family searched. It was about 30 miles from where Salinas disappeared, with no explanation. "I really still don't know how it works. I've been doing this type of work for 10 years and it still amazes me," said Fierro. Fierro says she randomly gets visions, images and feelings from Salinas. "When I think of her, I think I see a pink light," said Fierro. "I'm just connected to her energy and to that love that surrounds her." Fierro says she's not out to cause more pain for a family who's lost a loved one. "I think it's just as painful right now for them whether I'm here or not to assist," said Fierro. Fierro says she has a "gift" everyone has, but isn't necessarily tuned in to. She knows some don't believe in it. "I honor their belief system and I just do the healing session with them and usually something will happen. I always ask them to expect a miracle, but have no expectations when you come through the session," said Fierro. So will we ever know what happened to Adrienne Salinas, and what happens next? "I'm not really sure. I don't know. All I can do is listen," said Fierro. Fierro says she reached out to a law enforcement organization in connection with the Salinas case, but did not hear back. It's something she says is understandable. She says she's not charging the Salinas family for the information, but is simply volunteering. When asked if other visions of hers have been accurate she said yes, but declined to talk about it out of respect for the family who she says she keeps regular contact with. Family drawn to area where Salinas was found by spiritual advisor Posted: Aug 16, 2013 11:06 PM CDT Updated: Aug 21, 2013 11:06 PM CDTAPACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Police still don't know how Adrienne Salinas died. Her remains were found in a desert area in the east valley, and the search continues for any clues that could solve the mystery of the 19-year-old's death. How did she die? And how did her body end up more 30 miles away from where she disappeared 2 months ago? We have since learned that her family began searching parts of Apache Junction just days after she disappeared. It's a revelation that gives you chills. What led the family to that area several weeks before her body was found? Her remains were found near Highway 88 and Lost Dutchman Boulevard. Salinas' aunt says today it's the same area that she and Salinas' father and brother searched just a week after the young woman went missing.
They now know they could have been just short distance from where her body turned up. "She did not deserve to come back to us in the remains that she did," says Pamela Coss. In the days after Adrienne Salinas vanished, her family did everything they could to find her -- even getting advice from a spiritual healer. The woman told the family Salinas was in Apache Junction. "A spiritual healer had called us and said she felt she was over there so we drove over there."
The family went to camp grounds there, calling out for their loved one. An eerie foreshadowing of what investigators would later discover. "The confirmation yesterday was real. I thought I was prepared but that was really hard to hear that it was her." The 19-year-old's body was severely decomposed. A property owner found the body. Tempe police and the FBI are now working on piecing together any clues. "There was foul play. This was a homicide absolutely this was a homicide," says Coss.
Salinas disappeared in the early morning hours of June 15th in Tempe. Police say she got in a fight with her boyfriend and was on her way to his house when she crashed her car. She called for a cab but never took that ride -- vanishing around 5 a.m. Police do not have any suspects in the case. The family is now turning the search for the young woman to the search for a killer. "Now that we know she's with God and she's an angel there is a type of closure but we don't want this monster out there, he doesn't deserve to be among us." At this point investigators are searching a four mile stretch from where the body was found, looking for any clues. Detectives say the body may have been washed to the site in a recent flood, and right now the coroner is still examining the body to determine the cause of death. Adrienne Salinas case: Police continue evidence search in Apache Junction after body found Mon Aug 19, 2013 2:43 PM
Tempe police continue to brave sweltering heat Monday morning as they search a four-mile stretch of wash in Apache Junction for evidence related to the disappearance and death of 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas. Sgt. Mike Pooley, a police spokesman, said that the search will continue Monday, with a smaller group. Monday’s operation is part of a planned strategy by detectives to do smaller, more targeted searches utilizing GPS coordinates, Pooley said. Tempe police confirmed Thursday that a badly decomposed body found by an Apache Junction property owner was that of Salinas, who had been missing since June 15. The news came exactly two months after Adrienne’s father, Rick Salinas, reported his daughter missing. Rick Salinas called Tempe police after he found Adrienne’s car with two flat tires about two blocks from her apartment, west of Arizona State University. Pooley said police are investigating the young woman’s death as a possible homicide. He said police have not received a cause of death from the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office. The searches on Thursday and Friday focused on a four-mile desert wash. He said searchers were looking for such possible evidence as Adrienne Salinas’ clothing, or her cellphone. Police said they do not believe Salinas died where her skeletal remains were found. Instead, detectives believe she likely floated down a wash from another location where she was either dumped or killed, Pooley said Thursday. There was significant flooding on July 21. Searchers had been concentrating in an area a couple of miles west of the Superstition Mountains, southeast of Highway 88 and Lost Dutchman Boulevard, near Lost Dutchman State Park. No suspects have been identified despite an exhaustive investigation that has, until now, been hindered by a lack of physical evidence and witnesses. “Everything is on the table,” Pooley said, and no one has been ruled out as a potential suspect. “We are just happy we were able to find her,” he said. “With the way her body was found, it is difficult to tell what happened to her.” Police have interviewed hundreds of people, some of whom allowed searches of their personal property. Some of those interviewed also have agreed to polygraph examinations that are inadmissible in court but used by police as an investigative tool. In addition, police searched the area near Salinas’ apartment, west of Arizona State University, and they also searched Tempe Town Lake. www.azcentral.com/community/tempe/articles/20130819adrienne-salinas-case-police-continue-evidence-search-apache-junction-abrk.html

Adrienne Salinas case: Tempe police hope public can help solve mystery Thu Aug 22, 2013 6:37 AM
Tempe police say it likely will take the right tip from the public to solve the death of a 19-year-old college student whose remains were found in an Apache Junction desert wash earlier this month. Police are hopeful that forensic examinations underway in Tucson also will be helpful, but they know the condition of Adrienne Salinas’ remains poses some potential limitations. “This case will be solved because someone comes forward to give us information,” said Sgt. Mike Pooley, a Tempe police spokesman. “If the forensics come back with nothing, we will need someone to come forward.” Salinas’ skeletal remains were found by an Apache Junction property owner on Aug. 6, and Apache Junction police notified their Tempe colleagues on Aug. 7. Police searched for evidence in a four-mile stretch of the wash Thursday and Friday, and a smaller area was searched Monday. Police on Tuesday said they are sifting through what they found for potential evidence and have no immediate plans to conduct further searches of the wash. Adrienne Salinas had been reported missing by her father, Rick Salinas, on June 15, and police knew something was amiss when she didn’t call him or visit him on Father’s Day. Adrienne had attended a birthday party the night before and argued with her boyfriend before she vanished early that morning. Dr. Greg Hess, Pima County’s chief medical examiner, said a team of pathologists and anthropoligists are working to determine a cause and manner of death. But Hess said they don’t have much to work with and it is possible that the decision on her manner of death may eventually be based on the totality of the suspicious circumstances. Because of the condition of the remains, it may be difficult to identify a suspect based upon forensics, Hess said. “I think that would be pretty much a longshot,” he said. Rick Salinas, Adrienne’s grieving father, said he has been briefed by Tempe police on their investigation and is confident detectives are doing everything they can to make an arrest in his daughter’s death. Police are investigating Adrienne’s death as a homicide, even though an official cause has not been determined. “We are hoping, praying that someone will come forward,” Salinas said. “We know it was foul play and someone caused this, someone is responsible.” He said it could be as simple as someone finding Adrienne’s telephone by the side of a road and turning it into police, or someone reporting the description of a suspicious person they spotted on the way to Canyon Lake on June 14, the day before Father’s Day. The remains were found in the area of Highway 88 and Lost Dutchman Boulevard, near Lost Dutchman State Park. “I strongly believe it was foul play, that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Salinas said, adding that it is vitally important to himself and his family that justice is eventually served. Salinas also said that because the person who harmed his daughter is still at large, other people’s loved ones are at risk. “We don’t want this to happen to another innocent child,” he added. Police ask that anyone with information call 480-350-8311, or contact the Silent Witness Program.www.azcentral.com/community/tempe/articles/20130820tempe-pd-searching-more-clues-death-year-old-woman.html

Adrienne Salinas update: Death not officially considered homicide, police say
APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - Tempe police say it remains unknown how a 19-year-old college student whose body was found in a desert wash died and that her death isn't officially a homicide. Tempe police Sgt. Michael Pooley says the department issued a clarification on Adrienne Salinas' death because some media reports have called it a homicide. Pooley acknowledges police are treating the death as a homicide for investigation purposes, but he says the medical examiner hasn't officially determined "cause or manner" of death. Salinas was last seen early the morning of June 15. Police say she was headed to her boyfriend's Scottsdale home but didn't arrive there. Her badly decomposed remains were found Aug. 6 in a wash in Apache Junction. Pooley says a search of the area may resume next week. Adrienne Salinas' family pleads for killer to come forward
TEMPE, AZ - A Valley family is forced to say goodbye after a missing Tempe college student is found dead. On Thursday, police confirmed that 19-year-old Adrienne Salinas's body was found in Apache Junction. Pamela Coss, Adrienne's aunt, said their family is just broken. She's pleading for the killer to come forward, and she believes this may be someone Adrienne actually knew. Coss said Adrienne was full of life and plans for the future. "She was always smiling. Smiling. She had a beautiful smile," Coss said. When she went missing two months ago, her family held out hope she would be found safe. "So when we found out the news, it was devastating. We're angry, that somebody would do that to her, because she didn't deserve that," Coss said. Coss said her family has been ripped apart. "This person has destroyed her dad, my sister. That changed our lives forever," she said, crying. Their search for Adrienne has now turned into a fight for justice -- as police continued to comb the desert Friday for evidence in a wash where a homeowner found her body. "Somebody killed her, and dropped her off. And for the remains to be found that way, it has to be a monster. There's a monster running around, and we need to find him," Coss said. Pamela worries whoever killed Adrienne actually knew her. "I hope we have justice soon. She deserves it, and her family does," Coss said. She wants the person who stole Adrienne's life to come forward. "And turn himself in and have justice here on earth, so that we can see it. So that we can have peace," Coss said. The search for evidence could continue next week. Right now police are reviewing the debris they've collected so far. Police backed off calling this a homicide Friday, but they believe once they get Adrienne's cause of death from the medical examiner, it will help move the investigation forward.
