Missing Portsmouth girl, 13, found alive; arrest made in case July 25, 2013
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- A Portsmouth girl who had been reported missing by her mother Wednesday morning was "located alive" and in good health, the Portsmouth police said Thursday. The police said they could not comment further on the status of 13-year-old Kathryn Botelho or where she was found. A news conference, is set for 3 p.m. Thursday with Portsmouth, Rhode Island State Police and the FBI. An Amber Alert issued Wednesday afternoon was cancelled just before 1 a.m. Kathryn was seen leaving her house at 59 Ferry Landing Circle, a condominium development near the Mount Hope Bridge, with an unknown man who the authorities described as a white man, 40 to 50 years old, of thin build, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and unshaven. The two were seen getting into an older-model Chrysler, possibly a Concord or Sebring, with faded paint. The car, the authorities said, may have New Jersey plates. A man, whom the authorities declined to identify, was arrested in New Jersey. He's due in federal court, Newark, Thursday afternoon, said Katherine Gulotta, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Boston. The New Jersey man, said Jim Martin, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Rhode Island, will be informed that a criminal complaint has been filed against him in Rhode Island and the nature of the charges. Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island are yet to file a complaint against the man, but officials said the case is not considered kidnapping. A news conference will be held in the Portsmouth Town Council chambers at 3 p.m. www.providencejournal.com/breaking-news/content/20130725-missing-portsmouth-girl-13-found-alive.ece
