Brittany Thompson Found Safe: Missing Massachusetts Girl Located With Man In Rhode Island; No Criminal Charges Pendingon September 12 2013 2:40 PM
Brittany Thompson, the developmentally disabled 17-year-old girl who disappeared Monday and was considered “endangered" by the Massachusetts State Police, was found safe Thursday morning in Rhode Island. Brittany was last seen at the library in Medfield, Mass., around 4:25 p.m. Monday, when she left with a man whose picture was posted on the state police’s Facebook page. “I want to emphasize the fact that she is safe, she is unharmed, she is OK,” Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney told the Boston Globe. The state police's Facebook page added, "The Massachusetts State Police would like to thank all that called in tips, shared our posts and were vigilant in looking for Brittany." When the state police sought the public’s help in finding Brittany through its Facebook page on Wednesday, they said they believed she was “endangered.” Brittany was found early Friday morning walking with a man down a road in Coventry, R.I., Meaney said. The man, only described as being in his late 20s, gave authorities a Missouri address and was identified as the same man captured on surveillance cameras leaving the library with Brittany. Authorities are continuing to investigate Brittany’s brief disappearance, although Meaney said “there are no criminal charges pending” at this point in the investigation after the state police spoke to the district attorney’s office. “There’s a lot of pieces of the puzzle that we have not yet put together,” he said. The Medfield police chief also said the department believes Brittany willingly left the library with the man. “It appears to us from the videos — and that hasn’t changed – that she appeared to go voluntarily with him,” he said, adding that it didn’t appear that Brittany or the man tried to run away when authorities located them. www.ibtimes.com/brittany-thompson-found-safe-missing-massachusetts-girl-located-man-rhode-island-no-criminal-charges

Missouri man charged with sex trafficking in Mass. girl's disappearancePROVIDENCE - Federal prosecutors on Friday charged a Missouri man with sex trafficking in the disappearance of a 17-year-old developmentally disabled girl who went missing Monday after leaving a library with the man in Medfield, Mass., and then turned up Thursday morning in Coventry. Stephen Ardrey, of Springfield, Missouri, was charged with sex trafficking of a child and transportation of a minor with intent to engage in sexual activity. Ardrey, who is facing 10 years to life for both charges, was ordered held without bail by federal magistrate Patricia A. Sullivan. Ardrey, as is custom in federal cases, entered no plea at this time.
Brittany Thompson walked out of the Medfield Public Library with Ardrey on Monday afternoon. Police said it appeared she had met him on line. Video released by police at the time shows a man now identified as Ardrey entering the library and then a moment later turning to leave as the girl follows him out the door. Her parents reported her missing after her mother went to the library around 5 p.m. to pick Brittany up. Media reports of her disappearance generated many leads which led police first to Boston and then to southern states, said Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney on Thursday, hours after a passerby in Coventry saw Ardrey and the teenager walking down a street in Coventry. Meaney said the person who alerted Coventry police said something about the pair looked awry. Ardrey put up no resistance and he initially faced no charges.news.providencejournal.com/breaking-news/2013/09/missouri-man-charged-with-sex-trafficking-in-mass-girls-disappearance.html
