According to NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot, the boyfriend said she took a cab to her job in the 300 block of Bourbon Street. He hasn’t seen or heard from her since.

Lockhart is a white woman, 5’3” tall and approximately 122 pounds. She has long black hair with Tattoos covering most of her body.

Investigators: Woman's torso found in Miss. linked to New Orleans

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. - Investigators from Hancock County, Miss., are on their way to New Orleans to speak with authorities in the case of a woman's torso found on the beach in Bay St. Louis, Chief Deputy Don Bass told WDSU. Bass said the case involving a woman's torso that was discovered on the beach in Bay St. Louis is linked to New Orleans.

The victim had been decapitated and dismembered, Bass said, leaving only the torso to wash ashore early Thursday evening.

Workers dredging along the beach discovered the remains. Police said the young woman was white, possibly between 15 and 22 years old, and had a single stab wound to the chest. Investigators said the body had three piercings for jewelry, including two on her chest and one in her navel. Coroner Jim Faulk said an autopsy won't help with identification, but it could give information about the death.

Authorities said they have been looking at missing person reports in the region to see if any of the women match the description of the torso.

Torso identified as missing New Orleans woman, pathologist confirms

As more body parts wash up on South Mississippi's beaches, officials now say they are 100 percent positive the torso found in Bay St. Louis Thursday belongs to Jaren Lockhart of New Orleans. The 22-year-old has been missing since Tuesday.

According to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove, a calf washed ashore around 6am Saturday morning on the Beach in Pass Christian in front of Emerald Avenue.

About an hour and a half later a thigh was found in front of Holiday Drive in Pass Christian. Just before 8am a head was found at Picture Point in Long Beach. A fourth body part was discovered around 11am in Pass Christian.

Thursday evening just before 6pm, a torso was found on the beach in Bay St. Louis.

Officials had said it would be next week before DNA results would give a positive identification. But the pathologist in the case told WLOX News Saturday that the victim is Lockhart. Officials wouldn't say if that determination would made based on DNA or identification of body parts.

Tattoos help Mississippi deputies identify dismembered remains of Jaren Lockhart

After finding a decapitated head lying on the beach Saturday morning in Harrison County, Mississippi officials were able to positively confirm the identity of the female torso that washed up Thursday in neighboring Hancock County as belonging to 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart of New Orleans. Also found on Saturday were three pieces of Lockhart's legs, said Don Bass, chief deputy for the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

According to New Orleans police, Lockhart was last seen by her boyfriend Tuesday about 8 p.m. at a Mid-City motel where the couple was living. He told police she was headed to a Bourbon Street club where she worked.

Before Lockhart's head was discovered, investigators were awaiting DNA evidence on the torso found earlier in Bay St. Louis for a positive identification. The torso had a stab wound to the back, Bass said -- probably the cause of death, though that has not been confirmed, he said.

Although the head had been in the water for an estimated three days, Bass said, it was easily identified as Lockhart's, in part because of tattoos on her neck.

Before Lockhart's head, along with some clothing, was found by police in Long Beach at midday Saturday, two pieces of leg were found in different locations Saturday morning in Pass Christian, also in Harrison County. The first piece was spotted by a fisher, who notified police and set in motion an extensive search on land and in the water, stretching across the two counties.

A third piece of leg was discovered later in the day floating in the water in the harbor at Pass Christian.

Altogether, Bass said, investigators have "one full leg and one half leg," minus the feet.

The torso was discovered Thursday evening by workers pumping sand onto the beach in Bay St. Louis near South Beach Boulevard and Bay Oaks Drive.

The events that led to Lockhart's death, dismemberment and disposal, Bass said, are "inconceivable."

Based on Thursday's and Friday's high winds and high tides, he said, it appeared likely that the body parts floated in from somewhere to the west of Bay St. Louis.

Chip Price, the night clerk at the Capri Motel at 2424 Tulane Ave., said the couple had been staying at the motel for two or three months, and would pay $50 in cash each day.

About 7 p.m. every night, Price said, he would call a cab for Lockhart, who he said was working as a dancer in the French Quarter. Price, whose shift ends at midnight, said the couple kept to themselves, and the only thing he remembered about the boyfriend was that he spent his time hanging out with Lockhart. Police have not released the boyfriend's name.

An employee at Temptations strip club at 327 Bourbon said Lockhart worked the night shift from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The day her boyfriend reported Lockhart missing, Price said, he explained he could no longer pay for his room and moved his belongings to an acquaintance's room at the same motel. Price said he hasn't seen the boyfriend since then.

In a news release Thursday afternoon, police said Lockhart's boyfriend reported that he became concerned when he was unable to reach her and contacted police.

Price said he was shocked to learn of Lockhart's gruesome fate. The motel is home to many offshore and French Quarter workers, he said, and does not get many tourists.

Bass said the Hancock County Sheriff's Office is in charge of the homicide investigation. Until investigators can find evidence to prove otherwise, he said, they have to assume that the murder happened where the first piece of the body, the torso, was discovered.

Detectives are working with police in New Orleans to try to find a motive and a suspect, Bass said.

The search for body parts will continue on the Mississippi coast, Bass said, depending on the tides and weather conditions. Pathologists and coroners in both counties are working together to piece together Lockhart's body, he said.

With more than 20 miles of beach in the two counties, Bass said, there is a lot of ground to cover. He said he was thankful that most of the body parts were found by search teams rather than children playing on the beach.

Mississippi authorities are determined to find a suspect in Lockhart's murder, Bass said.

"Whoever did this is going to make mistakes," he said. Some tips will lead to dead ends, he said, while others might prove valuable. "We will take all we can get. We are going to solve this."

Investigators working to solve gruesome crime

With four body parts discovered Saturday on the beach and a torso on Thursday, a pathologist has confirmed the victim is 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart of New Orleans.

Now that police know her identity, the focus of the investigation has switched to finding the perpetrator who committed this heinous crime.

Lead Investigator Glenn Grannan said, "We spent an extensive time in New Orleans last night, we interviewed at least two dozen people."

Grannan confirms no one has been arrested yet for Lockhart's murder, but he said investigators have made strides.

"We have some information about who she may have been with last, but none of it is confirmed so we have a lot, a lot of work to do," Grannan said.

Lockhart was reported missing by her boyfriend who told police the last time he saw her, she was getting into a cab to go to work Tuesday evening.

Police have now gathered evidence that shows she did in fact make it to her job at a strip club on Bourbon Street.

Chief Deputy Don Bass said, "They have some videos showing that she did leave the club at a certain time, they have to go over that and sort it out."

Grannan said, "We are working the case as if it happened in Hancock County until we can prove otherwise, because with these remains at these locations it could be anywhere really at this point."

Lockhart's torso washed ashore in Bay St. Louis Thursday and Saturday parts of her legs were found on the beach in Pass Christian. Her head and some of the clothes she was seen wearing out of the club early Wednesday morning were found in Long Beach.

"We will solicit the help of some professionals and try and study what the tide movements and wind movements may have had on these materials," Grannan said.

That is just one of the many questions left for investigators to figure out before they can crack the case.

"We gathered a lot of information last night and we feel confident in our skills. We believe we will find resolution," Grannan said.

Investigators have also learned Lockhart leaves behind a young child.

Breakthrough in mystery of stripper's murder as police say surveillance tapes with clues show her leaving club

A sheriff's investigator hopes surveillance video from Bourbon Street in New Orleans will provide clues about the death of a strip club dancer whose dismembered body washed ashore on the Gulf Coast.

Four body parts belonging to Jaren Lockhart, 22, washed up on Mississippi beaches this weekend after her torso was turned up days earlier, police said.

Hancock County Chief Investigator Glen Grannon said on Sunday experts on tides would be consulted Monday to help determine where the body parts, including the woman's head and parts of her legs, were likely dumped.

Ms Lockhart, mother of a three-year-old girl, was last seen leaving a motel on Tulane Avenue in New Orleans around 8pm on Tuesday.

WDSU reported that her boyfriend told police that she took a cab to Bourbon Street, where she worked as a dancer, and he grew concerned when he could not reach her throughout the night.

'We know she made it to work and left in the early morning hours,' Grannan said. He said there is some surveillance video showing her leaving the club.

He would not go into detail about who she left with.

Investigators have been working with New Orleans police and interviewing people who knew or might have seen Lockhart.

He said they also planned to check video from other nearby businesses.

Her torso was discovered on Thursday with a stab wound to the chest in Bay St Louis, Mississippi.

At around 6am on Saturday, a fisherman came across a calf on the beach in Pass Christian, east of Bay St. Louis, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove told NBC affiliate WDSU.

About an hour and a half later, police also found a thigh nearby. The head was discovered to the east of Long Beach.

According to the TV station WLOX, an unspecified fourth body part turned up later in Pass Christian.

Investigators say the west-to-east current could have carried the remains from New Orleans to Bay St. Louis over a period of two days.

Lockhart had been a resident of the Capri Motel, a $50-a-day motel frequented by Gulf oil workers between offshore stints and by French Quarter bar employees.

Grannan said Lockhart had a small child but he doesn't think she had custody of the girl.

Officials are working to determine if the four remains belong to Ms Lockhart, who apparently had tattoos and piercings over most of her body.

Grannan said strong evidence indicate that the remains found on Saturday are those of Ms Lockhart, based on known physical descriptions including extensive tattoos.

A positive confirmation will be made through DNA testing.

Sheriff seeking identity of persons possibly connected to woman found dismembered

Law enforcement revealed the surveillance video showing two persons of interest in the case of a Louisiana woman whose dismembered body was found over several beach locations in Mississippi.

Law enforcement officers in two states are working together to identify the person or persons responsible for the death of Jaren Lockhart, 22.

Surveillance footage captured at the entrance of the club where Lockhart was last seen shows the young woman leaving with the couple. Continued footage from cameras located along Bourbon Street show Lockhart voluntarily walking with them for several blocks.

Today, investigators are looking for the man in the video as well the woman. The man is a person of interest in the case. Investigators said they are looking for the woman and "fear for her safety."

"She possibly is possibly in danger if the perpetrator thinks she can identify him," Glenn Grannan, Chief Investigator Hancock County Sheriff's Office, explained. "This was not some random shooting. Whoever did this is capable of some pretty heinous things."

The torso of Jaren Lockhart was first discovered on the Mississippi beach in Bay St. Louis on Thursday, June 7 by a cleaning crew. The head, arms and legs were removed from the body and there were stab wounds to the chest. Preliminary forensics revealed that the limbs had been intentionally removed and that the torso washed ashore.

Lockhart was positively identified as the victim on Saturday, June 9 after her severed limbs, including her head, were also recovered in the water not too far from where the torso was found.

"They all match with the torso based on the tattoos on her body," Grannan explained.

Lockhart was last seen at 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6 walking out of her place of employment with the couple. The club where she worked is located on the 300 block of Bourbon Street. Lockhart was reported missing the next day by her boyfriend after he was unable to contact her and became concerned. Investigators say the couple identified today are the only two people who are unaccounted for from that night.

Lockhart was the mother to one child.

Sheriff's deputies take murder investigation to New Orleans

Man, woman wanted for questioning in murder of Bourbon St. dancer

Surveillance cameras inside Temptations – a club on Bourbon Street -- captured images of a man and woman entering the club in the early morning hours last Wednesday.

Around 20 minutes later, they left with dancer Jaren Lockhart, authorities said -- a reason the two are now considered 'persons of interest' in Lockhart's murder.

Authorities said they have gathered footage from other cameras across several blocks, which also show Lockhart with the man and woman.

"Somebody will recognize these folks. They know we're looking for 'em and they haven't contacted us yet. So, it's our desire to put this out there and somebody will identify them," said Hancock County (MS) Sheriff Ricky Adam, whose office is handling the investigation.

Lockhart's dismembered body washed ashore along Bay St. Louis and other Mississippi beaches last week, and now, the video could be key in helping investigators learn what happened.

Officials said preliminary and unconfirmed information, leads them to believe the man possibly works as a doorman at a nearby club, while the woman, they said, is possibly a street performer.

The relationship between the two and Lockhart is unclear.

Officials said, for now, all possibilities are still on the table, including the idea that thetwo persons of interest may also be in danger.

They aren’t considered suspects, but they haven’t been ruled out either.

"If they're not involved, they could be victims. If nothing else, they're witnesses to the last time -- we know -- that she is alive,” said Hancock Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Glenn Grannon. "Our concern is that both of them -- their safety could be in peril as well. If they seen something that the perpetrator didn't want 'em to see, they could be in trouble."

Detectives said Lockhart’s boyfriend, who first reported her missing last week, is cooperating with the investigation.

Two wanted in connection with N.O. woman's murder in custody

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS. - A man and a woman wanted in connection with the killing of a New Orleans woman whose body parts were found on Mississippi beaches are in custody on unrelated charges in a Tangipahoa Parish Jail, according to Hancock County officials.

The woman in custody is identified as Margaret A. Sanchez, 28, while deputies said the man has multiple aliases and at this point can't be firmly identified.

The two were being questioned by Hancock Sheriff's Office deputies. A spokesman with the sheriff's office said those being questioned are believed to be the two people seen in a video they released Tuesday.

Jaren Lockhart was reported missing more than a week ago and the discovery of her body on Mississippi beaches came a few days later.

On Tuesday, the sheriff's office released the video of the man and woman they say were last seen leaving a New Orleans club with Lockhart prior to her disappearance.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. - The man and woman sought in the surveillance video from the night Jaren Lockhart disappeared are in police custody, Hancock County, Miss., investigators said.

The man and woman arrested are a boyfriend and girlfriend from Kenner, police said.

They were taken into police custody Tuesday about 10 p.m. and are being held in Tangipahoa Parish.

Police said the arrested woman’s name is 28-year-old Margaret Sanchez.

However, police said the man has many aliases across the country, and they couldn’t verify his identity yet.

Both were arrested on unrelated charges not connected with Lockhart’s investigation.

They were taken into custody with the help of NOPD, Kenner police, Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parish investigators.

Police said viewer tips helped lead to the arrests.

Couple in Bourbon Street video with slain stripper arrested on unrelated charges

BAY ST. LOUIS, Mississippi -- The couple seen in surveillance video with slain Bourbon Street stripper Jaren Lockhart, 22, are being questioned after they were arrested Tuesday.

Glenn Grannan, chief investigator for the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, said the two were arrested in Tangipahoa Parish, La., on charges unrelated to Lockhart's death.

The man was detained on a parole violation out of North Carolina, he said. Grannan did not have the man's identification. The man was wanted on a parole violation as sex offender, he said.

He identified the woman as Margaret Sanchez and said she was arrested on an obstruction charge related to a fugitive.

The man and woman reported lived in Kenner, La.

They were arrested after a video and still frames from a video showing them leaving the Temptations strip club on Bourbon Street in New Orleans with Lockhart were aired and published.

"We are going through people who last saw her alive," Grannan said.

Lockhart was last seen early Wednesday as she left the club.

On Thursday evening a torso, eventually identified as Lockhart's, was discovered on a Bay St. Louis beach.

Other body parts, including a head, were found Saturday on beaches from Pass Christian to Long Beach.

Lockhart's gruesome murder shocked the Gulf Coast when remains of her dismembered body began washing up on a Bay St. Louis beach in Mississippi last week Thursday.

"It's been killing me for the lat few days. Everybody says be strong. But its hard to be strong," said Lockhart's mother, Donna. "It's like somebody ripped my heart out of my body."

"I'm numb, just dead on the inside," said father, Pete Singer.

For her brother Lance who she affectionately nicknamed Bubba, what's most haunting for him is that he couldn't be there for the little sister he says he protected all his life.

"You know what is running through my head; that's what's running through my head. Bubba help me and I ain't there," said Lance.

He says he last heard from her two weeks ago when she reached out to him in Tangipahoa Parish from New Orleans asking him to come and get her. But days passed and he had trouble reaching her again. Then he learned the disturbing news from his mother that his sister was missing and then later learned that she was dead.

"I feared she was going to die just because she was living in New Orleans," said Donna.

While they would have rather she didn't work at a gentlemen's club in New Orleans, they also admit that dancing at the Temptations Club was a job she did out of necessity to help support her and her little girl. The little girl had been living with the child's grand-parents.

"She needed money to stay afloat. She was going through hard times," says her friend Kristina Suzzanne Murphy. They say it is also hurtful to see the degrading comments people are posting about her because of what she did to make a living. "They didn't live with her. They don't know who she was. How are you going to talk about someone and not know who they are," said Lance. "She was more than a stripper, she was a wonderful mother and she was a great friend," said her aunt Alice Swain.

They say working in a gentlemen's club on Bourbon Street is not something she aspired to do long term. They say she had plans to go back to school and get a degree in cosmetology. Her loved ones are also adamant that most likely she knew her killer. "That's the way we raised her. You won't get in a car with a stranger. You don't go with a stranger. I don't think it was a stranger that did this," said Pete. They also say it was in her nature to fight if she was caught up in a struggle its why they believe her remains may hold many D.N.A clues about her killer.

They say they found her head. Check her teeth; my sister doesn't play. When you're fighting with her, she will try to bite the biggest hole out of you she can; that's how she was," said Lance.

It's a case they know will also depend on help from the public. Its why they're pleading for anyone with information to come forward."I want peace for my grandbaby and justice for my grandbaby," said Donna.

Tip from public leads to couple in surveillance video

Two people are in custody in connection with the murder of Jaren Lockhart, and were under intense questioning in Tangipahoa Parish, LA Wednesday.

Authorities said the couple from Kenner were identified from a surveillance video from Club Temptations in New Orleans, leaving with the victim early Wednesday morning.

Investigators said the woman's name is Margaret Sanchez. She's being held on $1500 bond for a traffic violation and resisting an officer.

The man has a number of aliases, but is now being identified as Terry Christopher Speaks. Officials still aren't sure where he's from, but said he has ties to North Carolina.

Authorities received a tip from the public Tuesday after the video was released, identifying the man and woman. Officers went to the couple's home and learned they were eating out at a restaurant. The officers staked out the restaurant and waited for them to leave before approaching the couple. Speaks tried to run from officers, but was captured after a short chase.

Last week, Lockhart's dismembered torso washed up on the beach in Bay St. Louis. Several other body parts, including her head, came ashore two days later. Since then, authorities in Hancock County and New Orleans have been retracing the 22-year-old's last steps.

Surveillance video released by authorities Tuesday showed Lockhart leaving her place of work early Wednesday morning with the couple now in custody.

Surry County fugitive arrested, linked to dismemberment case

Man listed as absconder since September 2011

A fugitive from Mount Airy has been arrested in Mississippi and is being held for questioning in the case of a woman's dismemberment in the New Orleans area.

Terry Christopher Speaks, 39, was arrested around 10 p.m. Tuesday, sister station WDSU reported.

Mississippi police said Speaks was wanted on warrants in four jurisdictions. Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson said Speaks was arrested on a fugitive warrant from Surry County.

WDSU reported Speaks was charged with resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight and aggravated assault.

In September, Speaks was listed as an absconder in North Carolina on probation violations. Surry County detectives tracked Speaks to Pennsylvania, but he disappeared even with the aid of U.S. Marshals, Atkinson said.

Speaks was required to register as a sex offender after being convicted in Surry County of indecent liberties with a minor in 2003. He also spent three months in prison.

In Mississippi, Speaks has been linked to the death investigation of Jaren Lockhart, 22, a dancer at a New Orleans gentleman's club.

Lockhart's severed body parts began washing ashore on a beach in Bay St. Louis, Miss., on June 7. The beach is about 60 miles east of New Orleans.

Mississippi police believe Speaks and his girlfriend, Margaret Sanchez, 28, of Kenner, La., were seen in surveillance video leaving the gentleman's club with Lockhart. Sanchez also was arrested on unrelated charges and is being held for questioning.

Investigators in Mississippi said that, even if the arrested weren't directly involved in her death, they were among the last witnesses to the last known time Lockhart was alive.

Speaks' criminal record in North Carolina dates back to 1995.

Surry County deputies couldn't find Speaks for nearly a year until he was found in San Diego, Calif., in February 2006.

Speaks was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a probation violation and fraud and was in prison until January 2009, department of corrections officials said.

Two in custody now named suspects in death of Bourbon Street dancer

NEW ORLEANS - The investigation continued Wednesday into the murder of a Bourbon Street dancer. Two suspects are in custody, but they haven't been charged. Margaret Sanchez, 28, broke down in tears inside a Tangipahoa Parish courtroom Wednesday.

Sanchez and her boyfriend, Terry Speaks, 39, are persons of interest in the high profile murder of Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart, 22. They were arrested in Tangipahoa Tuesday night. Authorities pulled the two over after they left a party. They said Speaks bolted into the woods and U.S. Marshalls were called to find him.

"The Marshall's did capture him, came on scene, captured him a short time later in a wooded area," said Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam. Hancock County is involved because some of Lockhart's remains were found there.

Speaks was transported to New Orleans Wednesday to face a federal judge on an unrelated matter. He's charged with failing to properly register as a sex offender after committing a sex crime in North Carolina. He was convicted of three counts of indecent liberty with a minor in 2003.

Federal agents have decided to hold him in St. Tammany Parish. Friday morning, a federal judge will decide whether to set bond.

"He gave a lot of aliases that tried to lead us off track, but his fingerprints were able to positively identify him," said Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass.

Authorities said they were able to capture the two because tips started pouring in after a surveillance video went out. It shows the couple going into Temptations strip club on Bourbon Street, where Lockhart worked. Lockhart's dismembered body washed ashore several Mississippi beaches last week. Authorities believe the three knew each other and all worked in the french quarter.

"What business transaction or personal grievance they had, we're not sure at this point," said Bass.

"All these people have in common is the Quarter. So we're hoping that with all these tapes and interviews that people from the Quarter, because it's a small close knit group, will come forward and give us some more information as well," said Adam.

Sanchez Wednesday decided to keep her right to an extradition hearing, and was taken back to the Tangipahoa Parish jail.

Meanwhile, Authorities said they're not sure where exactly Lockhart was murdered. They'll continue to investigate and they hope anyone with more information will come forward.

NEW ORLEANS - The woman arrested on unrelated charges in the investigation of the disappearance and gruesome killing of a Mid-City woman appeared in court on Thursday.

Margaret Sanchez was arrested on unrelated charges Tuesday night after she and Terry Speaks were pulled over in a traffic stop for not using a turn signal, police said.

Sanchez returned to court after it ruled on Wednesday that she was in no condition to speak for herself. On Wednesday, Sanchez was in tears as she stood before a judge, telling them that all she wanted to do was call her father.

The hearing was over about 10 a.m. Sanchez was represented by a public defender in Tangipahoa Parish. She did not waive extradition, meaning she is fighting to not go to Mississippi where investigators want to interview her.

Speaks is being held in the St. Tammany Parish Jail on a federal charge. St. Tammany Parish Jail detains federal inmates for the U.S. Marshals Service.

Jaren Lockhart was reported missing last week. Days later her torso washed ashore on a beach in Bay St. Louis, Miss. Other severed body parts washed ashore along the Mississippi coast on Saturday, including her head.

Sanchez and Speaks were seen in a surveillance video from the strip club where Lockhart worked on Bourbon Street. The two were seen leaving with Lockhart in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Sanchez and Speaks are being called "suspects" by investigators, but no charges in the Lockhart investigation have been filed against them.

On Wednesday, investigators searched a Kenner home where Speaks and Sanchez lived. Investigators searched the home and the nearby field collecting bags of evidence with the assistance of cadaver dogs. Investigators haven't disclosed what they collected at the home.

Mother of Lockhart murder suspect defends her son

As the investigation into the murder of Jaren Lockhart deepens, the mother of Terry Speaks defends her son.

Deborah Johnson from Mount Airy, North Carolina says she has not seen Speaks in nearly a year, and was shocked to hear he was a suspect in a murder case hundreds of miles away.

She says he is a loving person and she can't believe he is in this kind of trouble -- didn't even know he was in Louisiana, she says, until she got a phone call.

"I said, 'well hey Chris,' I said what's up, 'cause I hadn't talked to him in three months, he said 'momma, I'm up here in jail.' I said what 'they got you for,' he said 'I'm a suspect in a murder case,' and I said 'well did you do it,' and he said, 'no,' and I said 'well if you didn't do it, then you'll get out of it,'" said Johnson.

"I ain't never knew him to be in no trouble. He ain't the kind of guy that gets in trouble," said Johnson.

Johnson says her son had been traveling to find good work, and the last time she talked to him, he was in San Diego.

A dancer at Stiletto's Gentlemen's club on Bourbon Street tells FOX 8, Speaks was a door man at the club, for at least the past few months.

Hancock County investigators scour coast for new leads in Lockhart investigation

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. - Authorities in Hancock County, Miss., are going to businesses along the coast working to get a break in the case of the gruesome death of a Bourbon Street dancer. Jaren Lockhart was last seen leaving the Temptations gentlemen’s club on Bourbon Street where she worked. She left with two people identified by police as Terry Speaks and Margaret Sanchez.

Lockhart’s torso was discovered on a beach in Bay St. Louis, Miss., days later. Other severed parts of her body, including her head, washed ashore over the weekend.

Deputy Chief Don Bass with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said they are checking nearby businesses along the Mississippi coast in an attempt to get a break in the case.

Sanchez and Speaks were being sought as persons of interest in the case after surveillance video surfaced showing them leaving Temptations with Lockhart. The two were taken into custody on Tuesday night on charges unrelated to Lockhart’s investigation.

Sanchez did not waive extradition, which means she will fight to avoid being brought to Mississippi where investigators wish to question her. Speaks was arrested and charged with failing to register as a sex offender after he was convicted of a sex crime involving a juvenile in North Carolina in 2003. He remains in the St. Tammany Parish Jail until his scheduled court appearance on Friday morning.

Dancer says she was approached by Lockhart murder ...

New Orleans, La. -- A Bourbon Street dancer who says she was approached by the suspects in the murder of 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart, on the same night Lockhart disappeared, has contacted authorities.

Dancer Sheila Nand had worked previously with 39-year-old Terry Speaks. Speaks and 28-year-old Margaret Sanchez are suspects in Lockhart's death, but are currently being held in jail on unrelated charges.

Stiletto's, an establishment on Bourbon Street, is right next door to the Temptations Gentleman's Club where Lockhart worked. Nand said she was approached by the pair while working at Stiletto's, and became alarmed when she saw news reports.

"I freak out like, oh my gosh, those are the people that approached me," Nand said.

Nand said Sanchez made her a generous offer inside the club.

"She asked me if I wanted to go home with her and her boyfriend, and I said I don't work outside of the club, and got off stage and they were still there," Nand said.

Nand said she was offered $700.

"That's the fishy thing about it is when she approached me on the stage, she asked me if I wanted to go home with her and her boyfriend as a third party as a 'gift' to him, you know," Nand continued.

Nand said there were other red flags.

"She changed the story on me and said, do I want to go to a private party with her, you know, and it would be safe and it's only to take a short amount of time, there was a bouncer which would be her boyfriend there and it was all good," Nand stated.

A manager at Stiletto's, who didn't want to go on camera, did confirm that Speaks did work there for less than a year. He said Speaks seemed like a nice guy and he had been gone from the business for about two months.

"He always portrayed himself as a really sweet guy, very shy," said Nand.

Hancock County Deputy Don Bass said they are checking out Nand's story about encountering the suspects in the French Quarter.

FOX 8 legal analyst Joe Raspanti said the case offers a tangle of jurisdiction issues.

"They gotta figure out where this young lady was killed, that's the main thing," Raspanti stated.

Another question Raspanti said must be answered is whether the victim was kidnapped from New Orleans.

"Where ever the murder occurred, you can bet that that's where the prosecution is going to start and finish," he said.

A Kenner woman questioned in the death and dismembering of a New Orleans dancer refused twice to waive extradition proceedings to Hancock County, Miss., but the chief deputy there says his office never requested the transfer in the first place.

Margaret A. Sanchez, 28, and Terry Christopher Speaks, 39, both of Kenner, were arrested Tuesday night in Tangipahoa Parish on counts unrelated to the death of Jaren Lockhart.

Lockhart, 22, was reported missing after she didn’t come home from work June 6, authorities said.

Lockhart’s partial remains and clothing washed ashore on several Mississippi beaches last week,beginning with Bay St. Louis, in Hancock County, on June 7, authorities said.

Investigators said they tracked down the Kenner couple based on callers’ tips after a surveillance video was released showing a man and woman leaving a Bourbon Street club with Lockhart several hours before her boyfriend reported her missing.

Sanchez appeared before Judge Robert Morrison in 21st Judicial District Court in Amite on Thursday morning and refused to sign papers that would send her to Hancock County, Chief Public Defender Reggie McIntyre said.

Sanchez also had appeared in court for an extradition hearing Wednesday afternoon, McIntyre said.

But Chief Deputy Don Bass, of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, said his agency had not filed extradition papers on Sanchez.

“I’m not sure what that’s all about, but it has nothing to do with Mississippi or with Hancock County,” Bass said Thursday afternoon.

District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said the two extradition hearings apparently were in error.

“It was a big misunderstanding by the jail and the judge because her (Sanchez’s) paperwork with the jail had something in the description about her being detained for Hancock County,” Perrilloux said late Thursday. “But we don’t have any paperwork on that.

“Apparently, nobody actually looked for a copy of the warrant or something that would give Mississippi the right to hold her,” Perrilloux said.

Sanchez remains in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail, deputies said Thursday evening.

Deputies previously said a hold had been placed on Sanchez, but McIntyre and Perrilloux agree that unless the hold is in writing, nothing would prevent Sanchez from posting bail if she is able to do so.

“The next step is in the hands of Hancock County,” McIntyre said. “If they want to indict her or charge her, or if they intend to extradite her as a material witness, they’re going to have to file some more paperwork.

“But right now, all we have is a misdemeanor traffic case,” McIntyre said.

Sanchez was booked with failure to signal and resisting an officer, according to deputies at the jail.

McIntyre said the resisting charge is based on Sanchez giving the officers an incorrect name for Speaks, who authorities say has used multiple aliases across several states.

Speaks was booked with resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight, aggravated assault and being a fugitive from the U.S. Marshals Service, deputies said.

The U.S. Marshals Service took custody of Speaks on Wednesday, said Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Doug Farrell, of the New Orleans office.

Farrell declined to say where Speaks was being held, but noted that Speaks has a hearing scheduled Friday in New Orleans federal court.

Speaks is wanted in North Carolina for failure to register as a sex offender, Farrell said.

According to the North Carolina Offender Registry, Speaks was convicted in 2003 on three counts of indecent liberty with a minor in Surry County, N.C.

His most recent address verification was in March 2011, according to the registry.

Court records show a warrant was issued for Speaks’ arrest on Feb. 28 based on a grand jury indictment finding he had moved without updating his address as required.

Bass said the investigation into Lockhart’s death is ongoing, and that officials await more information about the property seized from the Kenner couple’s residence Wednesday.

“The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force was conducting the process primarily. We were just assisting,” Bass said of the search.

Bass said he didn’t know what pieces of evidence were taken from the home, but he hoped they would help investigators determine where the killing took place.

Suspect may have lured dancer to private party

Investigators are beginning to put together more details about the last hours of Jaren Lockhart's life and how she may have ended up with the two people now suspected of killing her.

Though neither have been charged, investigators now believe the two suspects, Terry Speaks and Margaret Sanchez, tried to lure other Bourbon Street dancers to their home the same night Jaren Lockhart left club Temptations with the couple.

Hancock County Lead Investigator Glenn Grannan said, "Both girls were asked to come join them in maybe like a threesome and then they changed it to a party where they would make $700, $800 something to entice them to go."

Grannan talked to two women who say Sanchez and Speaks tried to lure them home.

"Both girls thought our female suspect was somewhat freaky as they described it and didn't feel comfortable, and they declined it and eventually they found someone to go," Grannan said.

That someone Grannan said was 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart.

"We have witnesses stating they heard Jaren ask to leave work early so she could go make some extra money on a party, so we believe she was enticed to go with the hope she would make some extra money," Grannan said.

Survelliance video shows Lockhart leaving Temptations early Wednesday morning with both Speaks and Sanchez.

Since apprehending the two, investigators have spent hours interviewing the couple about what happened that night

"She was very adjatated, very excitable, she was of course upset. It appeared maybe even under the influence of something," Grannan said. "He would speak about anything he wanted to speak about, unless you wanted to speak about this he referred to his attorney."

"We didn't obtain any confessions but received a lot of information," Grannan said.

While they are considered suspects, investigators have not ruled others out.

"They are our primary suspects because their actions in this time period, there are so many elements that can't be explained by us or them," Grannan said.

This is not Terry Speaks first run in with the law, he served two years in prison for statutory rape in North Carolina and since then he has been charged three times for failing to register as a sex offender. Speaks also has several misdemeanors on his record.
